Jump Back Jack

James 1:19-21
19My dear brothers, take note of this:
Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to
speak and slow to become angry, 20for
man's anger does not bring about the
righteous life that God desires. 21Therefore,
get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so
prevalent and humbly accept the word
planted in you, which can save you.

I failed the test, my guard was down I
was in reaction mode and pulled the
trigger (my tongue) quickly and
precious people were wounded in the
battled that ensued.
Today's verse for the day on
www.biblegateway.com is
1 Peter 5:8-9
“Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy
the devil prowls around like a roaring lion
looking for someone to devour. Resist him,
standing firm in the faith, because you know
that your brothers throughout the world are
undergoing the same kind of sufferings.”-

Now the mission is to seek forgiveness and
bind up the broken hearted; finding my
strength to do so in the Lord and God gets
the glory for the great things He continues
to do.
So "Jump back Jack" (meaning the devil)
in the name of Jesus! Greater is God than any
darts you are tossing.

Let's Pray: Lord, we know it is of no
surprise to You, but there is a battle going on
and it is ferocious! Keep us on the alert and
slow to speak, but quick to pray for only You
can save the day! May the prayers and cries
of your people abound in a fashion like never
before and may that become the norm for us,
not just an emergency call for this specific time,
but a way of life that becomes a familiar pattern
to many who maybe are just seeing the Light...
Jesus in whose name we pray. Amen

We Make a Difference

October 30
When tempted, no one should say, "God
is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted

by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each
one is tempted when, by his own evil desire,
he is dragged away and enticed. Then after
desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and
sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
James 1:13-15Check Spelling

John Piper lists 12 Sins We Blame On Others
1) Anger
I wouldn’t lose my temper if my co-workers were
easier to get along with, or if my kids behaved better,
or if my spouse were more considerate.
2) Impatience
I would be a very patient person if it weren’t for traffic
jams and long lines in the grocery store. If I didn’t have
so many things to do, and if the people around me
weren’t so slow, I would never become impatient!
3) Lust
I would have a pure mind if there weren’t so many
sensual images in our culture.
4) Anxiety
I wouldn’t worry about the future if my life were
just a little more secure—if I had more money,
and no health problems.
5) Spiritual Apathy
My spiritual life would be so much more vibrant
and I would struggle with sin less if my small group
were more encouraging, or if Sunday school were
more engaging, or if the music in the worship service
were more lively, or if the sermons were better.
6) Insubordination
If my parents/bosses/elders were godly leaders,
then I would joyfully follow them.
7) A Critical Spirit
It’s not my fault that the people around me are
ignorant and inexperienced.
8) Bitterness
If you knew what that person did to me, you would
understand my bitterness. How could I forgive
something like that?
9) Gluttony
My wife/husband/roommate/friend is a wonderful
cook! The things they make are impossible to resist.
10) Gossip
It’s the people around me who start the conversations.
There’s no way to avoid hearing what others happen to
say. And when others ask me questions, I can’t avoid
sharing what I know.
11) Self-Pity
I’ll never be happy, because my marriage/family/job/
ministry is so difficult.
12) Selfishness
I would be more generous if we had more money.

Hmm, one of the names of God is El Roi, the God who
sees. He sees the truth. Yesterday, my husband and I
were visiting his 89 year old aunt, who lives in a nursing
home. She was asking about the new school. Excitedly, I
shared how refreshing it is to be able to pray with these
children and teach from the Bible. Years ago she worked
at the same private school my husband worked for 20 years.
Eight years ago a Head Master came on the scene who
forbid the use of prayer. He wouldn't allow FCA, Moms in
Touch, or Young Life to step foot on the campus. The
students no longer said the Pledge of Allegiance. Then it
hit me....I taught at that same school thirty years ago and
we opened the day with The Pledge, a scripture reading,
and prayer. There was even weekly chapel. Over the
year, the masses were non-responsive to uphold the
right to do these things and a few lone voices changed
the tide...not just at this one small school....across our
nation. We need revival in this land. God's people
need to be heard. We need to pray that all God's
people will speak on Tuesday and not be lazy
and blame others for what this nation has become.
We do make a difference.

Let's Pray: El Roi, You see all and there is great
need. Keep us from our sinful ways and focused
on Your purposes. In Jesus Name, Amen

Hymns for Him

October 29
Walking in the house after work yesterday I was
drawn to the piano. I tend to tinkle with those
ivories when I am either elated or distraught;
subconsciously, (because by faith I am joyful
always) I believe I was distraught over this election.
Come Tuesday, I feel we are in a no win situation as a
nation and I pray the body of Christ is prepared to act
as what we are called to be.
Back to the piano...I had a long list of "to do's" but
it just seemed right to sing to the Lord. My daughter
gave me The Christian Life Hymnal a couple years
ago. Randomly flipping it open, the pages fell
upon Onward Christian Soldiers. The title of that
section in the hymnal is Loyalty and Courage.
Wait, it gets better!
Kind of in shock that God knew where my heart was
at that moment, better than I did myself, I challenged
Him to another flip. I was blown away for I didn't even
realize this hymnal had a section called National Hymns
and there before me was America the Beautiful. As I
began to sing the tears formed with heart break for what
we have become as a nation. Turning back one page and
singing My Country, 'Tis of Thee and the lyric "Land where
my fathers died, land of the pilgrims pride, I thought of those
two particular groups and our pledge to be One Nation Under
God. The song on the adjoining page was not familiar to me,
but the lyrics sent a chill down my spine.
Once to every man and nation comes the moment to decide,
in the strife of truth with falsehood for the good or evil side;
some great cause, some great decision, of f'ring each the bloom
or blight, and the choice goes by forever twixt that darkness
and the light.
Then to side with truth is noble, when we share here wretched
crust, ere her cause bring fame and profit, and tis prosp'rous to
be just; then it is the brave man chooses while the coward stands
aside, till the multitude make virtue of the faith they had denied.
Though the cause of evil prosper, yet the truth alone is strong;
though her portion be the scaffold, and upon the throne be
wrong, yet that scaffold sways the future, and behind the dim
unknown, standeth God, within the shadow, keeping watch
above His own.
Not wanting to leave the presence of the Lord, which I was
obviously in I took one final flip...the section was entitled
Hope and Assurance; the hymns...How Firm A Foundation
and on the other page another unfamiliar one but a WOWer...
God Will Take Care of You.
The first verse:
Be not dismayed whate're betide. God will take care of you;
beneath His wings of love abide, God will take care of you.

I've decided to type up all these lyrics and this Sunday morning
we will have a time of praise and prayer here at our home
following the Sunday Celebration service we are holding at 9:15.
Whether we are Democrats or Republicans we need to join hands
and pray that we might remain One Nation Under God!
Please email me at boojoyful@aol.com if you would like to join us.
I need God to provide a piano player for that morning as well.

With much love and genuine concern that those we love know
where they are headed, not only as a nation, but as one loved
and desired by God!

Psalm 122:6 Pray for the peace Jerusalem....
and for our United States as well.

Crowned

October 28
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial,
because when he has stood the test, he will
receive the crown of life that God has
promised to those who love him.
James 1:12

We've all watched the thrills, chills and tremblings
of a beauty queen when that crown is placed upon
their head! Can you imagine what it will be like
for those who love the Lord, when the crown of
life is placed on our heads?

At first glance one could read this verse and think
"If I tough it out, I will be rewarded for my
persevering." I go back to Ephesians and
believe our "free gift" salvation is the greatest
gift we receive and it is due to nothing we have done,
but available because of what Christ did for us.
The end of this verse relates the real requirement....
because I love Christ and trust in him there will be another
gift for me. A crown of life placed on my head and the
heads of all my brothers and sisters in Christ.
Hmm, wonder if we are to wear those things
everyday in heaven or can leave them at home and just
put them on for special occasions.

Let's Pray: Lord, You are The Giver of so much!
Forgive us for how we plow through a day without
so much as a thank You at times. Our minds cannot
comprehend what lies ahead for those of us who love You.
Father, likewise we are missing out on many of the
blessings available right here on earth, because we
do not take the time to get to know You in a way that
would afford You the opportunity to teach us so many
of Your secrets. Help us find the time today to be
with You in a very private personal way. Speak to
us, please show us Your wonders.
In Jesus Name, Amen

Not What They Seem

October 27
The brother in humble circumstances
ought to take pride in his high position.
But the one who is rich should take pride
in his low position, because he will pass
away like a wild flower. For the sun rises
with scorching heat and withers the plant:
its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed.
In the same way, the rich man will fade away
even while he goes about his business.
James 1:9-11

Things are not always as they seem.
The poor may feel like they are weighted down,
on the ground side of a see saw, when in reality,
if they are trusting in the Lord the richness of their
faith puts them on top.
The wealthy, who think they are riding high, without
Christ, become humbled when they realize the
blood of Jesus cannot be bought. While they are
in pursuit of material things, the brevity of life and
the opportunity to store up treasures of eternal
value are racing by.

A vocabulary for my students this week is
vague: not clearly expressed or understood.
The message of salvation is very clear.
Jesus came to this earth for sinners and His
desire is that none should perish, but have eternal life.

Let's Pray: Lord, you are so clear in your love for
for all of us, rich and poor alike. Give us eyes to
see others as You see them, precious in Your sight.
Your children are treasured by You and may we
treat others with the respect due them. Today help
us to see the good in everyone. May we look at them
and think...hmmm, I wonder what purpose God had
in mind when He created this person? Does this
person know how much he/she is loved?

May No One Doubt

October 25th
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God,
who gives generously to all without finding fault,
and it will be give to him. But when he asks, he
must believe and not doubt, because he who
doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and
tossed by the wind. That man should not
think he will receive anything from the Lord;
he is a double minded man, unstable in all he
does. James 1:5-8

Doubt:to lack confidence in. (Merriam-Webster)
Double-minded- to be unstable and lack conviction
in one's beliefs; to change loyalties or ideas. A person full
of hypocrisy; one who uses truth and lies in whatever
situation to benefit themselves in one way.
(From www.seekgod.ca)

The disciples were right there hanging out with
Jesus and they experienced doubt at times.
In the last month have you worried about
finances or your health?
Does Jesus bash us when we waiver and say
we have no faith? Nope, he is gentle and says,
"Oh, you of little faith."
We need to remember Hebrews 4:14-16
Therefore, since we have a great high priest
who has gone through the heavens. Jesus, the
Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we
profess. For we do not have a high priest who
is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses,
but we have one who has been tempted in every
way, just as we are-yet without sin. Let us then
approach the throne of grace with confidence,
so that we may receive mercy and find grace to
help us in our time of need.
Let's breathe, believing in the one who gave us
breath!
This was my wake up song this morning!
What a Great Hymn!
Rise up O men of God, Have done with lesser things.
Give heart and soul and mind and strength,
To serve the King of Kings, To serve the King of Kings.
Rise up O men of God, His Kingdom tarries long,
Bring in the day of brotherhood, And end the night of wrong,
And end the night of wrong. Rise up O men of God,
The Church for you doth wait.
Send forth to serve the needs of men
In Christ our strength is great, In Christ our strength is great.
Lift high the Cross of Christ, Tread where His feet have trod,
As brothers of the Son of Man,
Rise up O men of God, Rise up O men of God.

Let's Pray: Oh Father, what holy character you have!
You did raise up Your Son for us, so spur us on to rise up
to the occasions You place before us and serve You with
a single minded focus on Christ. Christ, the pure and righteous
one, who shed His blood for the forgiveness of our sins.
We do ask for wisdom and faith to flow into our lives
strengthening and encouraging us and then give us
convictions that have us stepping out in faith sharing what
we know as true in our lives with others. In Jesus Name, Amen

Where You Lead

October 24
Dang, I never know where the Lord is taking me.
Life with Him is like the TV show Survivor...a
new challenge or adventure every day. I am
beginning a study with my students on Randy
Alcorn's book Heaven for Kids (The adult version
is just called Heaven. I am feeling pulled to the
book of James as well, so just hold on with me
and we shall see where it all leads!

We are citizens of heaven, where the Lord
Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting
for him to return as our Savior. Phil. 3:20

Well that is a big AMEN right there. How about
coming back before this county falls apart? Uh, but
there are so many I love who are not ready to enter
into Your presence. Then I read how James begins
his book....James, a servant of God and of the Lord
Jesus Christ.
Studying the NIV Women of Faith Bible I read:
According to James, if we truly believe what
Jesus says, we will show it by living godly lives.
To merely say we have faith is insufficient. Living
in faith should pair adoration with action and
supplication with service. Such a faith will make
a difference to us and to others; how we live and
what we do really does matter to God.

Let's Pray: God, you are Almighty and You have a
grand plan....we want to know it, but realize in Your wisdom
You unfold what You think it best. Forgive us for all the
times we have not had servant attitudes. Spur us on
to make a lasting impact for Your kingdom. When we
see others who are lost fill us with compassion that acts.
Help us to believe James 1:2-4 where speaking through
James You tell us...Consider it pure joy, my brothers,
whenever you face trials of many kinds, because
you know that the testing of your faith develops
perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so
that you may be mature and complete, not lacking
anything. Living for You is exciting Lord, may our
daily actions reveal that to others! May there be a
smile upon our faces this very day that causes others
to think....what is he/she on? Ah, that would be a big
dose of Jesus and the hope of the Word!
In Jesus Name, Amen

The Body

October 23
Blackaby finishes this study on When God Speaks
by looking at God speaking through the church.
As the body is one and has many members, but all
the members of that one body, being many, are one
body, so also is Christ...the body is not one member
but many. If the foot should say, 'Because I am not
a hand, I am not of the body,' is it therefore not of the

body?...if they were all one member, where would
the body be? 1 Cor. 12:12, 14-15, 19)

He emphasizes how disharmony keeps the Holy
Spirit from doing a mighty work in churches. "If
God is going to redeem our world, it will be after He has
restored His body, the church, to wholeness and
effectiveness with each member functioning under the
head as God has placed them in the body."

Let's Pray: Lord, with You all things are possible and
we need to live like we believe that. We need to tell of
Your faithfulness to generation after generation. Please
Father, let revival start in each of our hearts, spreading
into our homes and expanding into our churhes and
communities! We need you Lord and a dark and dreary
world needs our churches to shine brightly. We shall
not fear, but stand confident in Christ and spread His
love to others. In Jesus Name, Amen

Sing:
The Church's one foundation Is Jesus Christ her Lord;
She is His new creation By water and the Word:
From heav'n He came and sought her To be His holy Bride;
With His own blood He bought her, And for her life He died.
Elect from every nation, Yet one o'er all the earth,
Her charter of salvation, One Lord, one faith, one birth;
One holy Name she blesses, Partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses, With every grace endued.
'Mid toil and tribulation, And tumult of her war,
She waits the consummation Of peace for evermore;
Till, with the vision glorious, Her longing eyes are blest,
And the great Church victorious Shall be the Church at rest.
Yet she on earth hath union With God the Three in One
And mystic sweet communion With those whose rest is won:
O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we,
Like them, the meek and lowly, In love may dwell with Thee.

Rushed into a Rut

October 21/22

For the past two days I have been rushed and
in a writing rut. Strangely enough the word that
keeps coming to me over and over again is
calligraphy. Googling the definition, which
triggered zilch, led me to penmanship. That
led me to go to my concordance and type in
"written word," which has taken me deeper
than I ever intended to go.
Josiah was 8 years old when he became King
following his father's death. At age 18 he began
a project to repair the temple of the Lord. Hilkiah,
found the Book of the Law there and saw to it
that this discovery was made known to Josiah.
This is what the king asked:
"Go and inquire of the LORD for me and for the
people and for all Judah about what is written
in this book that has been found. Great is the LORD's
anger that burns against us because our fathers have
not obeyed the words of this book; they have not acted
in accordance with all that is written there concerning us."

2 Kings 22:13
2 Kings 23 tells how in detail how Josiah cleaned up!

In my other study, Beth Moore is in Matthew 18:1-9...
"Woe to the world because of offenses. For offenses must
come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes." (7)

She states, To live consistently outside a trap, we must
recognize our own responsibility in at least three ways.
We are responsible for:
1) repenting of the sin of taking the bait
2) learning why we took the bait
3) asking God to mend and fortify the weak places in the
fabric of our heart, soul, and mind so we will not continue
life as a victim.
She says, "A critical part of my own personal freedom in
Christ has been asking God to help me search my heart,
soul, and mind for vulnerabilities to foolish decisions."

Another verse that the written word search took me
to was in Revelation 1:3
Blessed is the one who reads the words of this
prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and
take to heart what is written in it,
because the time is near.

May we remember nothing catches God by
surprise...He is aware and He is in control.
May we live in a way that shows we are ready
for Christ's return!

Triumphant

October 20

Triumphant ...we can TRI with all our own UMPH, but is ANT
going to be eternally successful (tested by fire) if it doesn't
have the blessing of the Lord.

Today's lesson from When God Speaks is one that leaves me
exuberant, because I have seen it played out so truthfully in
my life. The reality of closed doors in our lives is justified in
two powerful statements.
1)God never gives a large assignment to someone who is
unprepared.
2)What appeared to be a closed door was God's way of guiding
me into a ministry which far surpassed what I could ever have
dreamed of doing for God.

Blackaby poses these questions:
"What are some of the doors that have closed for you?"
"How did you respond?"

I listed five biggies from my life and answered number two with:
"Disappointed at first, but now I see the blessing."

Let's Pray:Father, You are the CEO of our lives and we need to
trust you with the final decision making. Forgive us when we
attempt to push projects through without consulting You.
Thank You for doors that have closed in our lives and kept us
from avenues we did not need to be traveling. Your ways are
triumphant and we will stand rejoicing at the successes You bring.
In Jesus Name, Amen

PAIN

October 18-19
PAIN...People Actively In Need
Webster defines pain in several ways:
physical discomfort;
acute mental or emotional distress or suffering;
one that irks or annoys or is otherwise troublesome.

No matter the category, the remedy is the same...
we can take it to the Father who is excellent at
restraining our pain and bringing comfort...
physical, emotional or just plain troublesome!

In the next lesson of When God Speaks, Blackaby
outlines a process to go through when our
circumstances are confusing (painful) and we
don't have a clear word from God on what to do.
1) Settle in your mind that God demonstrated His
love for you on the cross and that never changes.
2)Do not try to understand what God is like based
on your circumstances. Ask Him to help you see His
perspective on your situation.
3) Wait on the Holy Spirit. Learn patience!
God's timing is always best.
4) Adjust your life to God and what you see Him
doing through your circumstances.
5) If there are no clear instructions, wait and do the
last thing you know God told you to do. Don't feel you
have to be doing something all the time.
6)Experience God working in and through you to
accomplish His purposes.

However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He
will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on
His own authority, but whatever He hears He will
speak; and He will tell you things to come. John 16:13

Let's pray: God our father, hear our prayers. We come
before You because we believe that even if we have only
the faith of a mustard seed circumstances can be changed.
The pains we carry vary, so today we stop and share some
specific, personal heavinesses causing us PAIN...to be People
In Active Need of You! Take these painful situations....
____________________, _______________________.
Teach us to become triumphant through them.
Help us to trust You with the outcomes and encourage others
who may tread the same way. In Jesus Name, Amen

Love the One You're With

October 17
Our bulldog nudged up to the side of our bed around
5:30, looking for love and some good scratches. I
began a drowsy prayer time. Now finally awake I am
trying to remember what the Lord had on my mind to
write. Immediately the song Love the One You're With
comes to mind. Since Jesus is always with us, that would
make sense. Song lyrics beginning with "That" seem to be
lurking in the back of my mind...could it be "That's the way,
uh huh, I like it." Good to remember, God does long our
fellowship and is always there loving us!

In Blackaby's study today he mentions the importance of
remembering "spiritual markers" in our lives. "Key moments
in your walk with God become spiritual markers and give a
sense of direction to your life." These are great teaching tools
for us and great reminders of the love the One with us has for
us.
Blackaby states: "When I face a major decision, I review the
spiritual markers of my life.....when I clearly know God has
guided me. I do not take the next step without reviewing the
full activity of God in my life."

Let's Pray this poem:
Lord there are decisions for all of us to make this day,
but let us not rush to jump in the hay!
Before You we come,
discussing what should be done,
knowing all activity in our lives has repercussions
and should always reflect our love for Your Son!

We love You Lord and thank You for never leaving us
or forsaking, even when we fuss! In Jesus Name, Amen

Circumstances

October 16
Week 5 Day 1 When God Speaks

Think! Circumstances are events that occur in
your life which God uses to speak clearly about
Himself, His purposes, and His ways. Jesus
explained that He did not come to earth to do
what makes sense to Him. Rather, Jesus watched
to see where His Father was working and
adjusted His life to become involved in that work.
The Spirit of God will impress upon your heart
when He wants you to join Him. Blackaby

Hmm, both peace and pressure can be used to
prod us towards God's purposes for us.

And we know that all things work together for
good to those how love God, to those who are
called according to His purpose. Rom. 8:28

Let's Pray: Circle around us Father, create those
boundaries we spoke of yesterday and open our
eyes to see that You are the God guiding the
circumstances of our lives. Circumstances which
reflect You, Your ways and Your purposes. The
joy will come Lord, I am confident, when we realize
life is not about us, life is about The Bread of Life...
our Jesus. Lift his name on high, don't hide it!
In His name we pray, Amen

Boundaries

October 15
Boundaries
Driving into the city today I passed a stretch of road
construction. Orange boundary cones lined the center
of the two lanes. The traffic was in the "right" lane while
the asphalt in the left lane was being chewed up for
resurfacing. I had been asking the Lord to show up and
tell me what to write today since I didn't have an
opportunity to write this morning. "Boundaries" came
screaming into my mind. Hmm, I was thankful those
cones were there keeping me from slipping over the
edge into that mess.
The repetitiveness of the cones was comforting, realizing
that when they disappeared the coast would be clear...
in the meantime the orange reminders were for my
good.
God's Word is like a boundary cone...a subtle reminder
of what to avoid and where the safety zone lies!

God is magnificent; he can never be praised enough.
There are no boundaries to his greatness.
Psalm 145:3 (The Message)

Let's Pray: Be our Boundary Keeper God! Rope
off the areas we are to avoid Father; Your protection
is perfect. May we read "Keep Out" and praise You
as we "Keep On" in the faith. Help us understand
that Your discipline, instruction and reproof are for
our good. There is so much room to play with in the
boundaries You have set for our lives. In Jesus
Name, Amen

Yearning and Learning

Oct. 14
Week 4 Day 5 When God Speaks.

Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals
His secret to His servants the prophets. Amos 3:7

"When God determines to do something, He tells His
people. When God wants to do something in your
family, at your workplace, with your neighbor, or in
your child's school, He will alert you so that you can
become involved in His work." Blackaby

This is such a powerful lesson on page 62 of this book;
wish I had time to type all of it for you. Blackaby states,
"Your spiritual concentration is essential if you are to
recognize all that God is doing around you. If you are
not careful you can leave your place of prayer and
never make the connection between your prayers
and the events of your day."

We cry out with financial need, yet bypass the offer
when overtime hours are offered. We tell the Lord we
want to share his love with others, but neglect the
neighbor standing in her yard, the mom in carpool
line or the fan sitting in the stands with us.

Our yearnings often take us to our knees. It is in that
position of desperate desire, where we are most likely
to be lead by the Lord to learn some of life's most
lucrative lessons. In so doing, we experience a
precious presence we want to return to time and
time again.

Let's Pray: Father, You are All Sufficient for us.
May our yearnings and hearts' desires be in
accordance with Your ways. May our meditations
on Your Word, mold and make us pleasing in Your
sight to the point our prayers naturally begin to
reflect Your designed purpose for us. Ah, to be
one with the Father, one with the Son, one controlled
by the Spirit until all our days on earth are done.
In Jesus' Name, all God's people said..."Amen"

A Hindrance

Oct. 13
Week 4 Day 4 When God Speaks

God may be refusing to hear your prayers
because of the conditions of your life. Yikes!

"If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear!
Isaiah 1:15

"Couples committing adultery pray and ask God to bless
their relationships! Employees mistreat their employees
and ask God to bless their businesses! People act
selfishly and yet ask God to bless them! Could your
prayers be unanswered because after one attempt
at reconciliation you assumed the problem was now
the other person's and you began to try to relate to
God as if everything was now all right?" Blackaby

Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and
there remember that your brother has something
against you, leave your gift there before the altar,
and go your way. Be first reconciled to your
brother, and then come and offer your gift.
Matthew 5:23-24

Husbands, likewise, dwell with them (wives) with
understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the
weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the
grace of life, that your prayers may not be
hindered. 1 Peter 3:7

Ok, everyone is saying..."Ah, thanks so much for
writing Boo." Well, let me tell you, He has kicked
me in the "Bootie" and I have some repenting &
restoring to do. Whew doggies, our whole nation
does. We need repentance and revival in this land.
We are seeing the repercussions for what we have
not sown! A love for Jesus in this country. There is
great harvest out there and it is as if we have been
warned of a damaging frost hitting immediately and
all the workers need to pull together and get to
work. If there are hindrances in our way, keeping
us from getting God's work done, we need to get
rid of them now.
The biggest hindrance comes in thinking life
is all about us.
My husband and I have the day off from school
today and plan to spend it seeking the Lord believing
Jer. 33:3.

Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you
great and mighty things, which you do not know.

Let's Pray: Father on this Columbus Day, may we
make a discovery of our own...how magnificent
You really are for starters! Above all the other
calls we plan to make today may the one we make
to You be our top priority. If after listening to You,
you tell us to go and tell...find us obedient to do that.
If you counsel us to go and clean up an area of our
life, may we be quick to respond. We join together
crying out for our nation that is so sick and in need
of a miracle healing! Praise You, that is the
business You are in! With sincere and contrite
hearts we humble before you and say thank You
for the hope that comes from the resurrection of
Your Son. In whose name we pray, Amen

Some Days....

Some Days are Better Than Others
Oct. 11-12
Call upon Me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you shall
glorify Me. Psalm 50:15

My students were on an all day science field trip,
so I had the day off. The students headed off by
boat from our home, so I invited one of the moms
to come inside and pray. We shared and prayed
for over 2 hours! It was awesome. My husband had
an out of town speaking engagement, so I was
late doing the weekend grocery shopping tonight. One
of our pastors encouraged us last week to just pick
up the tab for someone, sometime, for no reason
at all. The grocery store was packed. A young man
came up behind me and sat his two items right next
to my groceries. I instinctively grabbed for the
divider rod. He said, "You don't want my Wood Chuck?"
I had no idea what he meant and replied, "I am happy
to pay for your groceries." He said, "You don't have to
do that." I explained it would make me very happy.
He said, "So this means then I have to go do something
nice for someone?" I smiled. Then he flashed his ID
at the check out girl. I looked at her and inquired....
Did I just buy this young man alcohol? She smiled and
said, "He is old enough." The fellow said, "It's ok, it is just
cider." Now what are the odds I decide to do the kind deed
thing and end up purchasing alcohol? The evening worsened
as our microwave exploded and I couldn't zap my dinner, then
I was three hours into a huge cleaning project and was
vacuuming in my bathroom when I vacuumed my favorite string
of pearls up with the central vacuum. Now my pearls are
somewhere within the walls of our home, they didn't make
it through the whole system.
I called my husband to share my dilemma...his response was..
"Just go to bed."

Let's Pray: Lord, some days are better than others, but all
days are tolerable because Jesus is there for the ride! I am so
thankful I have you to crawl into bed with Lord...You are my
comfort, my peace and more precious than pearls.
In Jesus Name, Amen

Oh my Goodness!

Oh My Goodness Week 4 Day 2/3 When God Speaks

How often have you prayed and gone merrily on
your way. Time passes, your prayer is answered
and you find yourself saying, "Oh my goodness, that
is exactly what I prayed for!" Been there, done that!
Do you remember in Acts when the church was
praying for Peter to be released from prison...he was
knocking at their door, while they kept praying and
when they opened the door the Bible says they
were astonished. Several years ago I came up
with the saying that I was going to pray with
positive expectancy.
Blackaby says in this lesson that when we are
surprised by answers to pray that can show a
lack of belief on our part. Here are some other
powerful thoughts:
When we pray God teaches us things we did
not know.
Sometimes we are so delighted with what we
receive that we fail to recognize that God has
communicated with us.
When God says no to our prayer requests, it
is because He has something better for us.

Look up these powerful verses on prayer and
be encouraged!
Jer. 33:3, Matt. 21:22, Luke 11:9-13,
John 15:7, John 16:23, 1 John 3:22

Let's Pray: Father, how foolish we are
when we busy ourselves and stay away, instead
of taking the time to humble ourselves before
You and pray! There is nothing You do not know,
but talking to You is a way for us our love to show!
Here we are, praise You Lord, you are never far!
In Jesus Name, Amen

Prayer Talk

Oct. 9
Week 4 Day 1
Blackaby profoundly informs us that the purpose
of prayer is not to influence God, but to change us.
"Do you approach God expecting conversation?
Do you wait for Him to speak when you have
finished talking?"
Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show
you great and mighty things, which you do
not know. Jer. 33:3

Life doesn't get any more exciting than
that...hearing from God!

When I think of the things I waited for
patiently this week, I should go back and put
hearing from You at the top of the list. I waited
for: a pizza and chicken wings to cook; 15 minutes
for gas at the pumps; my students to take a quiz;
our dog to go potty; 50 emails to be answered; so
I should certainly have time to wait to hear from
You Lord!

Let's Pray: Here we are Father, sitting at your
feet, believing in who You are and in the
relationship that we have with You, thanks to
Jesus. Our "to do" list has been put aside and
hearing from You is top priority...we wait.
In Jesus Name, Amen

Breathe

October 8
Week 3 Day 5 (Blackaby-When God Speaks)
Michael W. Smith sings:
This is the air I breathe This is the air I breathe
Your holy presence living in me
This is my daily bread This is my daily bread

Your very word spoken to me
And I I'm desperate for you

And I I'm I'm lost without you.

One friend shared yesterday that God is humbling
our nation and we need to turn to Him and His
Word, which brings life.
Feed upon these verses today and be refreshed.

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing.
The words that I speak to you are spirit,
and they are life. John 6:63

Set your hearts on all the words which I testify among
you today, which you shall command your children to
be careful to observe-all the words of this law. For it
is not a futile thing for you, because it is your life.
Deuteronomy 32:46-47

Let's Pray: God, You are the Giver and Sustainer of life.
When anxiety strikes and uncertainty screams at us, may
we breathe in Your Word and find life! In Jesus Name, Amen

I Am Watching

Oct. 7
Week Three Day 3/4 (Blackaby)
To encounter God in His Word...give us the clear
and unerring guidance we need for our lives.

Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have
entered into the heart of man the things
which God has prepared for those who love
Him. 1 Co. 2:9

I took the afternoon off today, starving
to be alone with the Lord. I was so glad
I did that instead of coming home and
turning on the news and learning what the
market had done. Opening my journal, I read
You must be like people waiting for their master
to return from the wedding banquet, so that when
he comes and knocks, they can open the door for
him at once. Luke 12:36

There were two interesting questions that I pass
on and pose to you.
1) What keeps you must distracted from
awaiting Christ's return?
2) What are some very practical things you could be
doing to constantly remind yourself to be scanning
the skies, looking forward to His appearing?

I had an interesting thought process. When our
grandson arrives in November, I will be stopping
to call everyone and tell them of his arrival. When
Jesus returns, I don't think I will be able to take
my eyes off him to think of anyone else!

Let's Pray: Lord, of all the things we pray today,
may one of them be that You would help keep us
watchful and expectant of Your return. In Jesus'
Name, Amen

Scripted

Oct. 6
Week Three Day Two
I've never been a soap opera watcher, but my
grandmother was. I remember, it may still exist,
a show called The Guiding Light. We have the very
same "Guide" on which Jesus relied. Blackaby says:
Jesus modeled for us the way each believer should love
before God. From birth to death, Jesus allowed Scripture
to shape and guide his ministry.
Think about it...He battled temptation with Scripture;
His Sermon on the Mount is filled with Scripture; He
responded to critics with Scripture; even His death fulfilled
Scripture.

Let's Pray that this week we will feed upon the Word before
we take in anything else. Before the news, before breakfast,
before checking email. It may mean keeping some
Scripture cards by the bed and meditating on a verse before
we roll out of bed. Let's pray that each of our lives will
be changed this week as the Word comes alive in us.

A God Guide to Harvesting

Oct. 4
Week Three Day One Blackaby's When God Speaks
Your word I have hidden in my heart,
that I might not sin against You.
Psalm 119:11

All scripture is given by inspiration of God,
and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in
righteousness, that the man of God may

be complete, thoroughly equipped for
every good work.
2 Tim. 3:16-17
Umm, umm God! Blackaby says: "God wants to
say many things to you through His Word. God may
confront your sin or reveal something about Himself
to enable you to love and trust Him more. God could
bring Scripture to mind to alert you to something He
knows you will encounter. God's Word can bring
comfort in times of crisis. Each time you respond in
obedience to what God reveals, He speaks to you
further about His will.

Check out those action verbs! God is not stagnant.
He wants to be intimately involved in our lives, He
loves us and created us for relationship. He has given
us a guide to follow. This morning, before my eyes
opened the word harvest was on my heart.

I went to Webster's to see how the definitions would speak
to me. A mature crop made me laugh as I thought about
my aging body and where I am in life!
An accumulated store or productive result had me taking
inventory of what am I doing with what I have accumulated
(materially and spiritually) in life...am I productive for the
Lord.
Then I headed off to the concordance to see what God's Word
has to say about harvests.

Here are some of the verses God used to speak to me:
About the election:
Proverbs 25:13
Like the coolness of snow at harvest time is a
trustworthy messenger to those who send him;
he refreshes the spirit of his masters.
About the economy:
Isaiah 32:10
In little more than a year you who feel secure will tremble;
the grape harvest will fail, and the harvest of fruit will not come.
About people I love who don't live for the Lord
Jeremiah 8:20
"The harvest is past, the summer has ended,
and we are not saved."
About Evangelism
Matthew 9:37
Then he said to his disciples,
"The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
About Persevering
Galatians 6:9
Let us not become weary in doing good,
for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
About Discipline
Hebrews 12:11
No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful.
Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness
and peace for those who have been trained by it.

Let's Pray: Father God, You are Lord of the Harvest! Let us not grow
weary, but be about Your business and reap the blessings You have stored
up for us. I am going to a baby shower for our first grandchild today and am
thinking how sad it would be if the gift I have made for him was not able
to be given. God, you have so many good things for us, but so often we are
about our own business and miss the blessings and gifts that are waiting
to be bestowed because we fail to show up in Your presence.
Guide us God to the harvest, we are ready to work! Please Lord, do not
remove Your hand from our nation as a result of Your children not
praying and seeking You. And may the lost not be left behind because
we were not obedient to carry Your message! In Jesus Name, Amen

Spinning Tea Cups

October 3 Week Two Day 5

Have you ever felt like you are on the spinning tea cup
ride at the fair, screaming...."Let me off before I throw
up?" That is the way my afternoon went. The exterminator,
who happens to love Jesus, met me at home to investigate
the ant problem. He knows a lot about ants and now I do too!
I spent two, one hour sessions at CVS trying to make a picture
CD of 120 photos of a school field trip. Each time I cropped,
enhanced and highlighted to have either a faulty CD or the
machine fail. I left there the second time frustrated and had
to head to the grocery store where I selected the WRONG line
and had to load everything up (including a 24 pound bag of dog
food) and move to another checkout aisle. Arriving home, I
entered the door to the sounds of Bill O'Reilly and Barney Frank
battling it out on TV. Now the VP debate has begun and I've
decided the best scenario for me is to go off and pray. I am
politiced out! Oh my, to top the day off Moses has just passed
the nastiest gas I've ever smelled. I don't need a spinning tea
cup ride to throw up!

Opening the Blackaby, When God Speaks, study my eyes fell
upon the words... Grieving the Holy Spirit. Me oh my, our
nation has to be grieving the Father, Son and Holy Spirit! Our
government is on a wild ride and I wish everyone would get
off and start over!

I grieved the Holy Spirit by how I allowed myself to be frustrated.
Check this out:
If you consider your sin to be nothing more than breaking a rule,
you may justify yourself by saying, "no one's perfect." If you view
your sin as the failure to live by certain principles, you may take
comfort in knowing that you can strive harder in the future. But,
realizing that sin is an absolute betrayal of the Person who loves
you deeply and sacrificially throws a whole new light on your sin.

Read those powerful words again, meditate on them.
Let's Pray: Oh Great God, be real to us today and be really, really
forgiving of us when we resist, grieve, or quench Your Spirit. Turn us
around faster than any spinning tea cup, so that we may be tuned
into the Spirit again. In Jesus Name, we come asking once more, Amen.
