Disconnect

Disconnect:to sever the connection of or between
Using wireless Internet it is not unusual to try
to get on and find the word "disconnnected" staring
at me.
Yesterday, I received a call from the son of a hospice
patient I had last year. This is his first holiday season
without his mother and he was obviously disconnected from
everyone. He was quite drunk and shared he had been for
months and had cut everyone out of his life. The question
he had for me was if I thought I should allow his doctor to
put him in the hospital for detox.
There are times when we need to "detox" from that the world
has to offer us and fall on our faces in the repentant mode
and be reconnected to Christ. The Message has a couple
excellent passages to draw us back.

Matthew 6:14
In prayer there is a connection between what God does and
what you do. You can't get forgiveness from God, for instance,
without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part,
you cut yourself off from God's part.

Colossians 3:3-8
Your old life is dead. Your new life, which is your real
life—even though invisible to spectators—is with Christ
in God. He is your life. When Christ (your real life,
remember)shows up again on this earth, you'll show up,
too—the real you, the glorious you. Meanwhile, be content
with obscurity, like Christ.

And that means killing off everything connected with
that way of death: sexual promiscuity, impurity, lust,
doing whatever you feel like whenever you feel like it,
and grabbing whatever attracts your fancy. That's a life
shaped by things and feelings instead of by God. It's
because of this kind of thing that God is about to explode
in anger. It wasn't long ago that you were doing all that
stuff and not knowing any better. But you know better now,
so make sure it's all gone for good: bad temper,
irritability, meanness, profanity, dirty talk.

Let's Pray: Lord, keep us connected to Your amazing
power source. Speak clealy to us this day and help us
to disconnnect from the activities that pull us away
from You and your purposes for us. In Jesus' Name, Amen
