Cover Up

May 7

Painting our boathouse last weekend I exclaimed to my daughter ad husband who were helping, "It is amazing what a fresh coat of paint will do for a place." My husband replied that is how he feels about fresh mulch in the yard. Make-up and hair dying have visual benefits as well! :)

In the case of our boat house some faulty nails keep rusting through and as long as they are there their stain will eventually pop back through the paint. Likewise, the weeds beneath the mulch will surface once again if they are not destroyed. The gray hairs, wrinkles and age spots will continue to show their stuff as well, so these processes are cover ups which will have to be repeated.

Sin has a way of resurfacing again and again in our lives. Take the sins of anxiety, doubt, fear and worry for instance...how many times will we pick one of them up today! Cover ups come in the form of substance abuse, shopping, addictive behaviors from exercise to anorexia or the subtle second sin of lying about the reality of the other sinful behavior. Just plain busyness can keep us from much needed confession and laying our burdens down.

He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy. Proverbs 28:13

Confession is a great form of weight loss! It certainly lightens our load!
