How Can I Keep From Singing by Chris Tomlin

July 11
Yesterday, at church, we sang Chris Tomlin's song "How Can I Keep From Singing". It is still in my head and such an upbeat tune! Day 79 in "Solo" which is based on Psalm 34:1-9, goes right along with the theme of Celebrating God. The author says, "In his book Prayer, Richard Foster speaks of stepping-stones along the path of learning to adore God. Ultimately, adoring God involves gratitude, magnifying him and "foot-stomping celebration," but these must be grown into, and our hearts must be taught." Of all the things we can teach someone else, the acts of prayer and praising God should be way up there.
Let's try it as we sing along:

Print off these lyrics and read them tonight before you go to sleep.

There is an endless song Echoes in my soul I hear the music ring
And though the storms may come I am holding on To the rock I cling

How can I keep from singing Your praise
How can I ever say enough
How amazing is Your love
How can I keep from shouting Your name
I know I am loved by the King
And it makes my heart want to sing

I will lift my eyes In the darkest night For I know my Savior lives
And I will walk with You Knowing You'll see me through And sing the songs You give

I can sing in the troubled times Sing when I win
I can sing when I lose my step And fall down again
I can sing 'cause You pick me up Sing 'cause You're there
I can sing 'cause You hear me, Lord When I call to You in prayer
I can sing with my last breath Sing for I know That I'll sing with the angels
And the saints around the throne

I pray that whatever life throws at you today, you can hold to the Lord and sing your way through it.

John Piper was featured on Godtube today preaching a stern, but similar message to this song relating to who God is, especially in our suffering, and what the gospel really is.
