Prone to Wander

The yard I like to wander around!

November 12-13
I laughed when the Lord put the phrase "prone to wander" on my heart this morning! This time of year in Franklin County, VA people like to wander through the woods and hunt. That is why it is not a suggested time for construction work, because many of the workers wandered off the jobs to go hunting! :) It's a dead give away that a student has wandered off the path to school if there is a deer hanging out the back of their pick-up truck!

The hymn Come Thy Fount of Many Blessings has a lyric which says we are prone to wander and leave the One we love. It is so easy to walk away from God. The Israelites had gotten so good at it, that God left them to wander in the desert for forty years. In our day, there are so many tempting offers calling us to set God aside and pursue self. Take a look at what four Bible authors have to say about wandering and commit this day to stay close to the Lord.

The sound of voices comes drifting out of the hills, the unhappy sound of Israel's crying, Israel lamenting the wasted years, never once giving her God a thought. "Come back, wandering children! I can heal your wanderlust! Jeremiah 3:21

Be good to your servant, God; be as good as your Word. Train me in good common sense; I'm thoroughly committed to living your way. Before I learned to answer you, I wandered all over the place, but now I'm in step with your Word. You are good, and the source of good; train me in your goodness. The godless spread lies about me, but I focus my attention on what you are saying; They're bland as a bucket of lard, while I dance to the tune of your revelation. My troubles turned out all for the best— they forced me to learn from your textbook. Truth from your mouth means more to me than striking it rich in a gold mine.
Psalm 119:65

My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, James 5:19

But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
1 Timothy 6:9-11
If you are wondering about wandering, be willing to wait!
