Bridging Gaps

There are many categories in which we hold individuals in high esteem and greatly respect them for the role they play in society. We can encourage the single mom whom we respect for the sacrifices she makes being on her own for her children.  In obedience to God's Word, we can respect our parents for loving us unconditionally.  I have great respect for educators, who step into often low paying and even dangerous positions to bring hope and a future to children. God cares most about our respect for Him.


God's eye is on those who respect him, the ones who are looking for his love. 
He's ready to come to their rescue in bad times; in lean times he keeps body and soul together.    Psalm 33:18-19
While it is easy to have overwhelming respect for God, we are called to a more difficult task (which honestly, I wanted to skip over in this entry).
1 Peter 2:13-17
Make the Master proud of you by being good citizens. Respect the authorities, whatever their level; they are God's emissaries for keeping order. It is God's will that by doing good, you might cure the ignorance of the fools who think you're a danger to society. Exercise your freedom by serving God, not by breaking the rules. Treat everyone you meet with dignity. Love your spiritual family. Revere God. Respect the government.

Still lacking total comfort and trust with this passage (thinking back over governmental leaders world wide through history) I decided to look up the definition of respect.  The urban dictionary popped up and had this entry for respect:


"It means valuing each others points of views. It means being open to being wrong. It means accepting people as they are. It means not dumping on someone because you're having a bad day. It means being polite and kind always, because being kind to people is not negotiable. It means not dissing people because they're different to you. It means not gossiping about people or spreading lies."

So may we show respect to one another and compliment someone we admire for this trait.

    Marriage Matters #1

    One of life's deepest hurts is when the one you love is unfaithful. Forty years ago, I remember an older friend, whose wife had been unfaithful and left him for another man saying to me..."Boo, I hope you never experience having the person you love and are married to, living 8 blocks away loving someone else." Deep hurt. They divorced. The wife of another friend of ours was having an affair with a fellow church member and a neighbor of theirs who lived 5 blocks away. She moved in with this man and our friend said one evening he was walking by the house where they were living together and saw them sitting at a table having a candlelight dinner. Ugh. The torment. I've always said it would be aweful to find out the person you were married to and  loved deeply loved another.  Hmm. We are the bride of Christ.  Is He our first love? 2 Peter 2:14 says: They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed

    Are You Sinking... Being Tossed About?

      A text came in from our neighbor recently, on a cold blustery day, when I was home with a stomach bug and awful headache. He said, "My canoe blew off our dock and has floated over to your shore."  And I'm thinking..."And you want me to do what?" I explained my husband was at work, but could help in the afternoon. I went to the window and could see the boat being tossed back and forth along our shore line. One minute it was close to our main dock and the next the winds had shifted and it was 200 feet in the opposite direction.  What I then realized is it had been taking on water. A text came again that he was in his car and driving around to our property.  Climbing out of my night shirt, I put on warm ups, UGGS boots and a hooded coat and limped outside to see how I could help. When I arrived to the shore line, the neighbor had tossed a 3 prong hook tied to a rope into the boat and was pulling it to the shore with one hand.  He had recently had hand surgery and
