Worth Repeating

August 19
Our church small group is currently studying the book of Acts.  In relationship to Peter's miraculous escape from prison, in Chapter 12:5, we are asked to look at how the community's prayers for Peter had a role in his escape.  The study, by Greg Laurie, states guidelines I think are worth repeating.
Effective prayer:
Focuses on God rather than obsessing about our needs or trying to impress others with our
           profound words.
Seeks to align with God's will rather than changing God's mind.
Is therefore rooted in a knowledge of God's heart as expressed in God's Word.
Is passionate and persistent, not discouraging or frustrated by waiting.
Is offered in unity with others.
Isn't always perfectly free from doubt.

Practice persistent prayers today with a passionate heart which is aligned with God's will and prepared to wait for his outcome.  When our prayer request concern others pray in a way that fulfills God's greatest yearning.
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness.
Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish,
but everyone to come to repentance.
2 Peter 3:9
