Kindness

July 25

This week we are blessed to have all of our grandchildren here at Shiloh. Each day on the blog there will be a few short prayers from a book called "While they were sleeping." This book emphasizes the importance of 12 character traits in our children's lives and our role as parents, grandparents, and mentors to pray these for our children. Today's trait is kindness.

#1 Kindness...is giving up something for the benefit of another.
Kindness...is having a sensitive spirit toward others.
Kindness...is treating others the way we would like to be treated.
Kindness...is controlling our negative thoughts toward others.

"Father, may this child be willing to give of himself to help a person in need. May this child not only see the needs of others but act upon these needs in a sacrificial way. Deliver this child from holding too tightly to his own possessions. Give him a willingness to share what he has with others."

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:16-18

"Gentle Father, cause this child to learn to respond to the anger of another with a gentle answer. Open the eyes of this child to see that the gentleness and kindness of speech can do far more than an unkind word to stop another person's anger."

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1

"Loving, gracious Father, help this child to resolve his conflicts instead of harboring bitterness or anger in his heart. May he never shout angrily or say things to hurt other. I pray that this child will not do evil things but will be kind and loving. Give this child the desire to forgive just as You have forgiven him in Christ."

Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4:31-32
