Mercy and Grace
These three grands got wheels for Christmas! Praying for mercy and grace!
2025 finds me launching off into a new Bible reading plan. Twenty five years ago when our daughter was living in Nashville, she had an amazing group of musician friends who would travel here for long weekends at the lake. One of those young women is Tara Leigh Cobble, who now hosts a podcast called "The BibleRecap." https://www.thebiblerecap.com/about
On Day 5, while in Job, Tara Leigh addresses the difference in mercy and grace this way.
"Mercy is when you don't get what you deserve. For fallen humanity, we all deserve hell. We've sinned against a holy God and tried to elevated ourselves to His rank. We deserve nothing but punishment. The fact that we're breathing right now is God's mercy toward us. Just like He showed mercy toward Adam and Even when they sinned in the garden, He hasn't given us the immediate death we deserve for our rebellion.
On the other hand, grace is when you get what you don't deserve. It's everything over and above not being annihilated. It's the way food tastes delicious, it's the way music brings us joy, and mostly, it's the way we get to enter into a relationship with God despite our wickedness."
How crazy is it that such a powerful God, who can do more than we imagine, choose to have an intimate relationship full of His mercy and grace with each one of us?
Now my Mama Boo application. Where do I need to up my outpouring of mercy and grace upon others?
Do my welcomings sound like 2 John 1:3...Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
Today will I, with confidence and draw near to the throne of grace and receive mercy and find grace to help in my time of need? Hebrews 4:15-16
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
