Survival Tips
A very talented church member hand dyes silk ribbons. The angel in the photo is one of her silk creations. This angel will hang in my kitchen year round as a reminder of the goodness of God, one being that there are angels encamped around us. I don't think they look like this though. At age four, one of our grandsons said this concerning an angel he saw at his home, "He was BIGGER than the house!"
Once again, I've printed off something worth repeating but have no idea where or when I came across these words of wisdom, so forgive me. They are great survival tips.
" 1. Get to know God’s purpose for the troubles in your life.
We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. Romans 5:3-5
2. Form the habit of finding God everywhere that there is goodness in this world.
This will keep you from treating the goodness as God, and it will keep you from scorning the goodness of God by rejecting the gifts. All God’s good gifts are meant not for idolatry; they are meant to give us a taste of the one who created them and to show us something of himself.
3. Read the Bible to get to know the person of God.
Always think: God is admirable. God is strong. God is wise. God is kind. God is patient. God is just. God is merciful. And as you see these traits in God, love him because of them. Find the person himself to be your treasure. Make Bible reading personal.
4. Remember your death is coming. And when that time comes, everything but Jesus will lose its comforting power. All our possessions, all our accomplishments, all our personal looks and intellect, all our family and friends, all of them will fail as a foundation for hope and joy in our dying. But if you know Jesus personally, the day of your death will not be a day of just leaving things behind that you’re familiar with, but it will be a day of stepping into the presence of the one that we care about most."
Boo thought. God is always with us.
Take time right now and list five ways you see the goodness of God.
1) The sun is rising and will warm our planet. (Him, somewhat, it's been freezing.)
2) As I breathe in I remember God is the One who gave me breath.
3) This morning's breakfast of eggs, bread and a bowl of mixed fruit have me amazed
at the variety and abundance of food we have available.
4) The Bible beside my bed, filled with love and wisdom, brings about a big hallelujah.
5) Even though my body is failing, it is not of eternal value, because I hold the hope of
eternity in heaven in my heart and the reality that the best is yet to come.
