God is Good, God is Great

So good to see these cousins together at Disney.

As a child did you say this blessing...
"God is good, God is great, let us thank him for our food. By His hands we all are fed. We thank him for our daily bread, Amen?"

 The next generation sang the Johnny Appleseed blessing...
"Oh, the Lord's been good to me and so I thank the Lord, for giving me the things I need, the sun and the rain and the appleseed. The Lord's been good to me.  Amen!"

 Somewhere in the mix was:
"Thank you for the world so sweet, thank you for the food we eat.
 Thank you for the birds that sing, thank you God for everything. Amen"

 God is good and God is great! I read a She Reads Truth article about the difference.

 "To say God is great is to focus on His power: He speaks creation into existence, makes the skies thunder and rain, and sets the planets in their orbits. But to say God is good is different; it is not just another way of recognizing His power. The goodness of God speaks to His personal character—who He is in relationship to us. In all ways and in all things, God is good. He is never absent, disinterested, careless, ill-tempered, petty, spiteful, or mean. He is set apart from all evil and does what is right, faithful, kind, and true. Always."

 That makes me happy!  He is all powerful. Mighty beyond our understanding, but also He is so, so good and caring about every detail of our lives.

Psalm 119:68 finds the psalmist praying:
"You are good and you do what is good; teach me your statutes."

 The only way to learn those statutes and the intricacies of God's greatness and goodness is to dig daily into His Word. Without It, I'm a sinking ship.  And that's no good!

 One of my dearest mentors, was a Sunday school teacher to our children.  Whenever you left her presence she would said, "Remember..."  and together we would say,
"God is good all the time, and all the time God is good."  Now I'm adding God is also GREAT!

"The Lord is good!  His faithfulness will last forever." Psalm 100:5

Marriage Matters #1

One of life's deepest hurts is when the one you love is unfaithful. Forty years ago, I remember an older friend, whose wife had been unfaithful and left him for another man saying to me..."Boo, I hope you never experience having the person you love and are married to, living 8 blocks away loving someone else." Deep hurt. They divorced. The wife of another friend of ours was having an affair with a fellow church member and a neighbor of theirs who lived 5 blocks away. She moved in with this man and our friend said one evening he was walking by the house where they were living together and saw them sitting at a table having a candlelight dinner. Ugh. The torment. I've always said it would be aweful to find out the person you were married to and  loved deeply loved another.  Hmm. We are the bride of Christ.  Is He our first love? 2 Peter 2:14 says: They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed

Are You Sinking... Being Tossed About?

  A text came in from our neighbor recently, on a cold blustery day, when I was home with a stomach bug and awful headache. He said, "My canoe blew off our dock and has floated over to your shore."  And I'm thinking..."And you want me to do what?" I explained my husband was at work, but could help in the afternoon. I went to the window and could see the boat being tossed back and forth along our shore line. One minute it was close to our main dock and the next the winds had shifted and it was 200 feet in the opposite direction.  What I then realized is it had been taking on water. A text came again that he was in his car and driving around to our property.  Climbing out of my night shirt, I put on warm ups, UGGS boots and a hooded coat and limped outside to see how I could help. When I arrived to the shore line, the neighbor had tossed a 3 prong hook tied to a rope into the boat and was pulling it to the shore with one hand.  He had recently had hand surgery and
