Enjoying Life

My mother in law stopped by to visit one evening and the children dressed her up.
Our daughter was infamous for dressing her little brothers, sometimes in her dance leotards.

I met with a young woman at church one evening last week. This gal has such a sweet heart and serves the Lord behind the scenes at our church.  Being a bit weary from the passing of my mother in law, I asked her to forgive me, for I had a bit of a foggy brain.  She said she was a pastor's daughter and she knew what the job entailed that Deke had accepted.  She said, "I can't believe the two of you are doing this when you could just be enjoying life at your age. Thank you."

Waking up in the middle of the night, after that meeting, her words "You could just be enjoying life" rang in my ears.

Serving the Lord, should be enjoyable.  It should be our heart tug.  Aaron and Moses' plea to pharaoh to let them go, was so they could serve the Lord their God.  Plugging in the word servant in Biblegateway resulted in 934 verses popping up!  Even Jesus came to serve!

"...even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a a ransom for many."
Matthew 20:28

The world says to make life all about us.  Retire, enjoy your golden years. Whether in full time ministry or simply being obedient to God's daily calls on our lives to serve him where he has placed us, we are all called to serve the Lord and find enjoyment in the process.

"Serve the Lord with gladness!  Come into his presence with singing!"  Psalm 100:2

So, today, we open our eyes that we may see the work You have prepared in advance for us to do.
Just as He came to earth to serve and save the lost, we are called to a life of service as well.

The full enjoyment comes in heaven!
