The Women of Christmas #3

These quick growing crystal trees were so much fun. They grew in 7 hours!
Quite the site for our eyes to behold.

For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth
to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.
2 Chronicles 16:9

In chapter 7 Liz Curtis Higgs taps into the people in the Christmas story who are ready to behold the newborn king, or NOT.

King Herod fits the "or NOT" category as he is quite disturbed by the Wise Men's desire to see the king who has been born. She writes..."Whew! A man evil enough to execute his wife and two sons would not bow to a newborn king."

Yet the wisemen were willing to travel far and bring extravagant gifts.

Higgs describes the gifts...

"Gold for a king, incense for a priest and myrrh for a burial pointing  to the sacrifice to come. God was providing for his Son’s needs and for Mary and Joseph’s as well."

The shepherds joyously and willingly bowed and worshipped the babe.

and they bowed and worshiped him. Matthew 2:11

Then at the temple we find Simeon and Anna whose eyes scanned the horizon daily for the Messiah they knew was coming.  Anna fasted and prayed daily and...

Anna worshipped night and day. Luke 2:37

I long to be like Anna...

“She’s plugged into life, whatever her age. She keeps informed; she stays involved; she reaches beyond her comfort zone; she cares deeply about people.  Above all, she has a vibrant relationship with God that shines around her like sunlight.” Liz Curtis Higgs
