Forbear

Will you start off today's devotional by singing this version of Amazing Grace by Chris Tomlin? Lift your hands and praise Jesus. Most likely, there is no one but Jesus and the angels watching and they will love it.

When I sang this song with our online church recently the word forbear stopped me.
It's not a word I've used often, if ever, in my day to day lingo, but it is word for us right now.

Forbearing-"showing patient an unruffled self-control and restraint under adversity; slow to retaliate or express resentment; 'seemly and forbearing...yet strong enough to resist aggression' 'was longanimous in the face of suffering'".

That synonym for forbearance is a new one for me. But longanimous, meaning long suffering, seems appropriate for Covid19.

Ephesians 4:2 is a great verse to memorize for what seems to be long suffering for our world at this time. Remember, for some of us the suffering is simply an inconvenience, an adjustment in lifestyle. For others it is facing the death of a loved one and not being able to even have a funeral or be surrounded by loved ones.

"Always be humble and gentle. Patiently put up with each other and love each other."

When we start to struggle...think about Jesus.

"We must keep our eyes on Jesus, who leads us and makes our faith complete.  He endured the shame of being nailed to a cross, because he knew that later on he would be glad he did. Now he is seated at the right side of God's throne!"  Hebrews 12:2

There are always lessons to learn. May we each be teachable today and share the love of Jesus with another.

Here's the next peek from my Coloring the Promises book.

"You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free."  John 8:32
