Amusement

Moses our bulldog can slumber just about anywhere!

And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.
Romans 13:11

April 12
I do enjoy a good word study.  Somewhere recently I read a devotional about the word amusement. The writer was explaining that muse means to think and the prefix alpha means "not to".  What he said next is scary...
"We are a generation that is amusing ourselves into oblivion.  And it's time to wake up!
Do you know what Napoleon said about China? 'There lies a sleeping giant, and let him sleep, because if he awakens, he will shake the world.' I believe the devil says that about the church of the Lord Jesus Christ. And I believe the church is just that: a sleeping giant.  We're asleep because we have been chloroformed by the spirit of this age."

Whew!  Friends, we do like to be amused.  I believe not only China has been awakened, but certainly the Muslim world as well.  I have to ponder what God has ahead for me as he brought this reminded of amusement  to me today and yesterday the reflection of the dead among the living.  Where is most of my time spent?  In amusement or in evangelism?
Will I be willing to breathe life into anyone else today by sharing God's Word and love for them?

But make sure that you don't get so absorbed and exhausted in taking care of all your day to day obligations that you lose track of the time and doze off, oblivious to God.  The night is about over, dawn is about to break.  Be up and awake to what God is doing!  God is putting the finishing touches on the salvation work he began when we first believed.  We can't afford to waste a minute, must not squander these precious daylight hours in frivolity and indulgence, in sleeping around and dissipation, in bickering and grabbing everything in sight. Get out of bed and get dressed!  Don't loiter and linger, waiting until the very last minute. Dress yourselves in Christ, and be up and about!   Romans 13:11-14
