Detained

April 27-28

Now one of Saul's servants was there that day, detained before the Lord. 1 Samuel 21:7

The Lord said to Moses, "Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone with the law and commandments I have written for their instruction.  Then Moses set out with Joshua, his aide, and Moses went up on the mountain of God...When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai.  For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the Lord called to Moses from within the cloud.  To the Israelites the glory of the Lord looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.  Then Moses entered the cloud as he went up on the mountain and he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.  Exodus 24:12-18

A group of us are studying the book Secrets of the Secret Place and each week we discuss someone's struggle to find time to daily slip away with the Lord.  The daily readings take an average of 10 minutes to read, but the urgency of our days can steal us away from even that.   Check out Moses' flexibility..ugh 40 days???? That's commitment.  But let's think about this....He was with the Lord. He probably never wanted to come down.
Once we experience the depth of fellowship, which is available to us, (yes, we may have to sit a spell and wait for His presence to be manifested) we don't want to leave.

I think back to my long distance dating days with my husband. I was teaching school in Florida and he starting a new business in Virginia.  He would fly to Orlando late Friday night and by Sunday morning, my begging began for him to stay "one more day".  Sometimes it worked and he'd change his flight to Monday morning.

When we get away with Jesus and he starts pouring out his love upon us through his word, we want more and more!  If we have to be detained somewhere, being detained before the Lord is a great place to be!
