10 Traits of a Godly Man

The birthday son on a scout campout with his 12 year old son in Minnesota.

It was the birthday of one of our sons. As I was writing a prayer for him related to his character, I googled traits of a godly man. I sent him the one below. Next my mind wandered to so many godly men who are a blessing to my life and particularly an encouragement to my husband who is a full time pastor. I decided to take the time to send the article to them and pray for them.

I prayed: I'm stopping to pray right now for the Lord to fill you with wisdom, grace, a faith that strengthens everyday, and Holy Spirit directed prayers that reveal the authority we have in Christ our Lord, in whose name I pray.

When Googling scripture verses for godly men, these came up.  May the Lord stir your hearts today to encourage some men of faith.

Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13

Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach... 1 Timothy 3:2

But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. 1 Timothy 6:11

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8

Faithful
How does a godly man demonstrate faithfulness in his daily life? He honors his commitments, both big and small. When you say you'll do something, follow through. Your word should be as solid as a rock. A godly man doesn't make promises lightly, and when he does, he guarantees they're kept.

Humble
A godly man exhibits humility by acknowledging that his strengths and successes are gifts from God, not solely his own achievements. When you recognize that your talents and victories are blessings, it becomes easier to remain grounded. You understand that boasting or seeking praise detracts from the true source of your abilities. Instead, you give credit where it's due, to God. You're willing to listen, learn, and grow, accepting that you don't know everything. This openness allows you to gain wisdom from others, showing respect for their insights and experiences. It's not about diminishing your self-worth but about recognizing the value in others.

Prayerful
Cultivate a consistent prayer lifeseeking God's guidance and wisdom in every decision you make. When you pray, be honest and open. Share your struggles, fears, and hopes. Ask for strength to overcome challenges and for clarity in moments of doubt. Listening is just as important as speaking; take time to be still and sense God's presence and answers.  Incorporate scripture into your prayer life. Reflecting on biblical passages can deepen your understanding and provide comfort.

Loving
When you embody love, you're following one of the greatest commandments: to love your neighbor as yourself. This means putting others' needs before your own, offering kindness even when it's inconvenient, and showing compassion without expecting anything in return. Your actions should mirror the unconditional love that God shows to you.

Honest
Being honest means always speaking the truth and acting with integrity, even when it's difficult. Honesty isn't just about not lying; it also involves being transparent and open. When you admit your mistakes and take responsibility, you show humility and courage. These qualities are essential for a godly life. You're not just avoiding deception; you're actively promoting a culture of truth around you.

Patient
godly man practices patience in his relationships. Whether it's with family, friends, or colleagues, you show understanding and compassion, even when others test your limits. You're slow to anger and quick to forgive, reflecting God's patience with you.
When life throws obstacles your way, your ability to stay calm and collected shows your trust in God's timingYou don't rush into choices based on impulse or emotion. Instead, you seek God's guidance and wait for His direction, demonstrating your reliance on His wisdom.

Kind
In your interactions, you practice empathy and understanding, avoiding harsh judgments. You respect others' feelings and aim to see things from their perspective. Your words build up rather than tear down, creating an atmosphere of trust and safety.
Acts of kindness can be simple yet powerful. Holding the door for someone, offering a genuine compliment, or even a warm smile can make a significant difference. You understand that kindness doesn't require grand gestures; it's the small, consistent actions that count.
You also demonstrate kindness by forgiving others, even when it's difficult. Holding grudges isn't part of your character because you know that forgiveness is a true reflection of God's love. By embodying kindness, you become a living example of divine compassion, inspiring others to follow in your footsteps.

Generous
Generosity is a reflection of your heart. It shows that you're not just focused on yourself but are deeply concerned about the well-being of those around you. It frequently manifests in your willingness to share your time, resources, and love with others. When you're generous, you don't just give money; you offer a listening ear, lend a helping hand, and open your heart to those in need.

Self-Controlled
Being self-controlled means you keep your emotions, impulses, and desires in check. It's not just about avoiding bad habits but about making intentional choices that align with your values and faith.Developing self-control requires daily commitment. You have to be mindful of your thoughts and actions, resisting temptations that could lead you astray.

Servant Hearted
Being servant-hearted means putting others' needs before your own, embodying humility and compassion in your daily actions. You prioritize the well-being of those around you, whether it's family, friends, or strangers. This involves listening intently, offering a helping hand, and providing encouragement whenever possible.
