Learn to recognize the voice of God for he wants to speak to you.

"Big Ideas" from the  Moving Mountains Study Guide by John Eldredge

"Listening Prayer involves asking Jesus what we should pray, so we can be in alignment with God’s will.

Prayer is not making speeches to God; it is entering into conversational intimacy with him.

When seeking clarity, we will almost always ask for the Spirit of wisdom and revelation.

Most people approach prayer as a one sided conversation. We come in, we make our request, we leave. Ask God what we should pray."

This is the confidence we have in approaching God:that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of him.  1 John 5:14-15

In Moving Mountains two examples of hearing from the Lord are referenced.

The first is of Elijah and the three year drought. Never, never give up, right?

After a long time, in the 3rd year the word of the Lord came to Elijah. “Go and present yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain on the land.” 1 Kings 18:1

Elijah was praying in partnership with God. Yet the answer came in a still small voice.

The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”  Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind.  After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.   1 Kings 19:11-12

The second story represents that sometimes we may not want to obey what we hear.

Ananias probably wasn't thrilled that God was sending him to pray for Saul. The killer of Christians.

The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias!” “Yes, Lord,” he answered. The Lord told him, “Go to the  house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.”

Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul., he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord-Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here-has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit .” Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. Acts 9:17-18

"Trust and obey for there's  no better way to be happy in Jesus than to trust and obey."
