He Raises Me Up
One of our sons, raising up his son!
April 8
That's the only quiet, secure place in a noisy world,
The perfect getaway, far from the buzz of traffic.
God holds me head and shoulders above all who try to pull me down.
I'm headed for his place to offer anthems that will raise the roof!
Already I'm singing God-songs; I'm making music to God.
Psalm 27:5-9
We've all seen the day when we needed a lift, literally and figuratively. More than once, I've filled the request to reach an item on the top shelf of the grocery aisle for someone a bit shorter. There've been flu filled days when I could not raise my head off my pillow and needed someone to step in and raise my children. With my recent back issues, I had to call upon friends to lift my grandchildren, I was caring for, in and out of cribs.
One of the most difficult things to raise can be our spirits when we are down trodden. The Psalm above expresses God's provision this way:
God holds me head and shoulders above all who try to pull me down.
A dear, dear friend sent me this Youtube video last week. It is of a British children's choir singing,
You Raise Me Up. I am praying for each of you who read this devotional today, that you allow God to raise you up, when the world tries to bring you down. I love you.
When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.
