Name Dropping

We love to drop a "good" name don't we.  We feel lucky when we encounter important people.

The young man in the photo above is Pittsburg Steelers' quarterback I mention quite often. He's been in our lives his whole life. I follow him on Instagram and this photo from last February had 10,560 "likes" the day I tuned in and many comments.  Some of those were women commenting things like "you're a cutie,"  "I'm in love with you, " "love me," and yes of course "marry me please." UGH. Please don't marry those girls!

Living in Nashville for twenty years our daughter often had celebrity sitings. She even attended church with some big names in the country and Christian music biz.  It was exciting for us to hear who'd she bumped into in their shades in the grocery store or nearby neighborhood restaurant.

What is more exciting for us to hear is what God is doing in her life.  She called the other day with an incredible answer to a prayer which we had been praying for her.

People were dropping Jesus' name when they encountered him and particularly when they were able to see one of his miracles. The recipients were quick to tell what Jesus had done (unless he told them to remain quiet).  How quickly celebrities can fall from favor though and just as quickly their followers seem to fall away.

Jesus can certainly attest to that.  As He approached the cross, many had switched their alleluias to "crucify him." Even some of His closest followers fell away, distancing themselves and denying any association.  (I cringe when the fans boo our beloved QB and then cheer him on a few plays later. Oh, that they could see who he really is. )

It was the resurrection that turned the tide and that appearance in the upper room that brought the disciples to the realization of who Jesus really was and what his resurrection means for all of us.

When did you first come to see Jesus for who He truly is?
When did you realize that your life is forever changed because of His sacrifice?
Who have you publicly dropped His name to and told how much he means to you?
We should never stop singing His praises and telling of all that he has done and continues to do for us!

"We cannot keep quiet about what we have seen and heard."  Acts 4:20
