He Prepares a Table

Setting a pretty table and hosting a gathering around a table brings me great joy!

December 6th our dining room table was set for fifteen. We were ready to welcome my prayer group and their husbands for our Christmas dinner celebration.  Three days before my husband had been feeling a little less than 100%, so we decided he would not eat with us, but stay in the bedroom. The day before the dinner he came home from church and went straight to bed.  We had to make a decision not knowing what kind of "germ" he had, so we cancelled the dinner. After going for a test it was the right call to have made and but it shut down our home for the month of December as I caught the "germ" after him.

There is a table set for us in heaven and no germ can hinder us from coming.

In David's beloved Psalm 23 we see the Lord attending to David's every need. Likewise, God provides and protects us. Paul reminds us in Philippians 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

I delight in the table talk in verse 5 where David says: You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies...

We will go through valleys and through tough days, but God's holy table awaits us.  Sitting at a beautiful table illustrates abundance, satisfaction and an outpouring of love.  There are times I plop down in the seat at a table and have that "take a load off" feeling and sometimes say, "I may never get back up".

No enemy can rob us of God's love and provision.  Somewhere I read this quote in relationship to God seeing us through our battles and our enemies just having to stand back and watch.         "They (your enemies) can only feel annoyed that you were victorious and prosperous in spite of them."

So, daily come to the table God has prepared for you and give thanks!

I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
