Shake, Shake, Shake
March 31
His voice that time shook the earth to its foundations; this time-he's told us this quite plainly-he'll also rock the heavens:"One last shaking, from top to bottom, stem to stern." The phrase "one last shaking" means a thorough housecleaning, getting rid of all the historical and religious junk so that the unshakable essentials stand clear and uncluttered.
Do you see what we've got? An unshakable kingdom! And do you see how thankful we must be? Not only thankful, but brimming with worship, deeply reverent before God. For God is not an indifferent bystander. He's actively cleaning house, torching all that needs to burn, and he won't quit until it's all cleansed. God himself is Fire! Hebrews 12:26-29
What you plant in your mind, stays in there. I read this verse on Saturday and later that night, while in the kitchen with one of our grandsons, I was singing…"Shake, shake, shake your Mama BOOtie." :-)
I think it came from studying how there are things in our lives Jesus wants to have shaken out!
In the Bait of Satan this 15th day of study talks about where Jesus explains to Peter in Luke 22:31 that Satan asked to "sift you like wheat." Jesus didn't come up with a way for Peter to opt out of this process. Instead Christ prayed, "that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren." Luke 22:32
It was Peter's pride that allowed the devil to come in thinking he could shake Peter to the point of losing his faith. Bevere's lists three worldly things that God will shake from our lives.
The lust of the flesh.
The lust of the eyes.
The pride of life.
Next Bevere's explains that Jesus knows the character building and faith strengthening that could come from this process and writes, "God is way ahead of the devil." He lists God's purposes in allowing shaking.
To bring your life closer to its foundation.
To remover what is dead, such as pride, from your life.
To harvest what is ripe within you.
To awaken a dormant area of your spiritual life.
To solidify your life so that the truth in your spirit man can no longer be separated from your soul and body.
Let's pray.
God, our Father, who loves us like no other, shake out the things in our lives which are detrimental to our spiritual growth, to being one with Christ, or to being a light in a lost world. On Christ the solid Rock we stand. In the name of the Rock, Jesus we pray. Amen
