On My Mind
Our three year old grandson circling in catalogs all the Legos his little heart is yearning for this Christmas.
His mother said the other day after some Christmas decorating had begun she found him sitting alone in the family room in his little chair. She said "What cha doing?" His reply, "I'm waiting for Christmas."
This time of year can blow our minds and our budgets! There are 26 of us in the immediate Andrews family. My mind is constantly thinking "What can I give all these children and grandchildren for Christmas and whose birthday is this month?" The right mindset would be "How can I pour more of Jesus into their lives?"
Paige Brown is an excellent Bible teacher in Nashville, TN. Since COVID she has done a few series online, but she only leaves the lesson up for a week and then it is taken down. This fall she taught from Romans and these comments and questions from chapter eight have stuck with me.
"What preoccupies our minds is our mind set, so tune in your mind set.
What do you think about when you are by yourself with nothing else to thing about?
Your true religion is what you do with your solitude.
You cannot set your mind on anything you are not filled with, so if your mind is not filled with God's Word you cannot set your mind upon it."
God's Word emphasizes the importance of our mind set.
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
Romans 8:5
The CEV puts it this way…People who are ruled by their desires think only of themselves. Everyone who is ruled by the Holy Spirit thinks about spiritual things.
Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:13
Lord, may our minds be set on You, filled to overflowing with Your Word and ruled by the Holy Spirit and the revelation of Jesus Christ. In His name we pray, Amen
