Pitfalls and Problems

December 21-22

Driving along Interstate 81 after the blizzard this weekend it was shocking to see cars which had been abandoned on the side of the Interstate and then plowed over with snow by snow plows. In one fifty mile stretch, news reporters sighted between 600-1000 people who had to be rescued after abandoning their vehicles. The national guard was called in to help rescue people and get them into shelters. All the hotels were full and gas became quite the shortage at stations along the exit ramps. There was at least one death.
My first thought upon seeing these cars, many plunged nose down into ditches, was what would make someone get out of their car in a storm like this and start walking? I am guessing you would be thinking you would freeze to death in the car, but walking blindly in a storm like that is asking for problems to pile upon problems.
Hopefully cell phones worked and many were taken to safety by the National Guard.
The image of these stuck cars with the snow piled upon them and packed in around them from the snow plows keeps coming to my mind. Our pitfalls and problems can escalate to the point we don't know how we are going to get out. Taking situations into our own hands, we may even get out and wander looking for solutions.
In a very therapeutic conversation with someone this weekend I made a statement which will probably become a quote like my...."It's not of eternal value." This one was..."Life is a lot." The loads we carry can become so burdensome that we don't see where we are going and fall into a pit; or even worse we are pushed there by others like Jwhat happened to Joseph.
May God teach us to ponder our problems with HIM while in the pit and proceed with positive productivity in the process of Him lifting us out!

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28
