Time's Up

August 8
Knitting away in the front seat of the car, my husband and I chatted as we headed home from a delightful outing at Lowe's. Quietly and calmly, the words, "Oh, my gosh." came from his mouth. Looking up, I saw a car coming straight towards us in our lane of traffic. Both cars were going at least 55 miles an hour. Gently pressing on the brake, my husband decreased our speed and considered his next move as the oncoming car swerved from our path. We both knew that our lives had just flashed before our eyes.
Two nights before, about 4 miles down the road, an 18 year old died in a swimming pool after hitting his head on the pool wall. A girlfriend had called that same morning distraught after seeing a body covered in a sheet on the road. The news explained a truck had hit the person, killing them instantly. Then the horrific news came of the dedicated soldiers who died in the helicopter crash in Afghanistan. Our time on this earth can end in an instant and eternity is ushered in.
If we knew today was our last day, what would we do?

Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.
