Too Small To Ignore

Chat with a child today. They have great insight.

Too Small to Ignore, a haunting recent read, has left my husband and me challenged to pray for those entrusted with a child and personally do more for children ourselves.  Jesus loves children!

Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.  Matthew 18:5

Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.  Mark 10:14-15

"See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven." Matthew 18:10

Dr. Wes Stafford, author and former president and CEO of Compassion International is the author of the fore mentioned book and wrote...

"Every child who crosses my path in the grocery line, at church, or at the ballpark I consider a divine appointment, and opportunity to lift that child up- if only for a brief moment. It may just be the moment that will launch a life or restore one that needs kindness today...

Nothing thwarts the efforts of Satan to destroy little lives more than a caring adult’s timely intervention to build up their self-worth and assurance of being loved.

It Really Does Take a Village…where did our sense of community go?  Our games for children have moved from the neighborhood summer evenings of hide and seek or capture the flag to isolated video games (and accompanying carpal tunnel syndrome as well as boredom).  There are so few adults to volunteer as sports team coaches or scout leaders in our communities...

Meanwhile, elderly people can’t quite keep up with the brisk pace of modern life, so they are left behind-secluded, alone and sad.  The value of love, instruction, and role modeling that should flow from generation to generation is lost….

The more wealth and comfort we gain, the more we lose our sense of community and the more isolated and lonely people become.…The loneliest are usually the children and the elderly. We are disconnected, accountable to no one, bereft of counsel and love and shared wisdom…

In the absence of human contact, we are now trying to substitute virtual relationships on the Internet."

Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.”  Matthew 11:25

Whenever we encounter a child, let's make the time to speak words that assure them they are valued.  Let's ask them open ended questions that allow them to share about life!  I'm a firm believer that young children are more aware of the spiritual realm than most adults have become. May we be known in our neighborhoods, schools, churches, and just out and about as adults who have time to listen and genuinely care what is being said by children.
