Out of This World
Thanking God for this 82 degree April day for these cousins to enjoy at Shiloh!
Holy Week is not my favorite. I don't like physical cruelty, injustice, nor betrayal. I'm the one in the theatre who has to turn her head away as Jesus is beaten and crucified.
I'm the girl who loves happy endings and hallelujah one is coming thanks to Jesus!
I was at the point in John's account of Jesus' discussion with Pilate in John 18 and when I found myself remembering over and over again His words "My kingdom is not of this world!"
So Pilate entered his headquarters again and called Jesus and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus answered, “Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?” Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have you done?” Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.” Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” After he had said this, he went back outside to the Jews and told them, “I find no guilt in him.
The Truth! The truth was Jesus' time on earth had been fulfilled and the kingdom of God was at hand. People needed to repent and believe the gospel. (Mark 1:15)
Charles Spurgeon once wrote, "Earthly kings glory in their strength, but Jesus' glory was his sacrifice. Earthly kings hold on to their rights and privileges and comforts. Jesus laid his down. His is a kingdom where the first are last and the last are first, where it is better to give than receive, and where greatness is measured by serving rather than being served because Jesus is the kind of king who leads by example."
Yup His kingdom is definitely out of this world!
Take time today to think about Him and give thanks.
