Like Yourself
January 29
My middle school students are reading The Secret Garden.
In yesterday's discussion one of the poignant questions was...
Does Mary like herself? The thought provoking answer..."No."
Immediately a couple students piped in they that didn't like themselves.
The beauty of being in a Christian school is being able to bring God into our discussions. "Who created you?" I inquired. A rapid choral response of, "God" resounded throughout the room. "Well, isn't it rather insulting to tell Him you do not like what he created?"
Whew, you could see the brain waves running through their heads!
For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
The same day our study guide had us discussing pruning and how new growth comes from this process. Ouch, snip, snip, cut, cut!
I wish he'd cut some of my tummy away in the process.
I kid you not, this morning I picked up a Bible study I am currently behind in and my eyes landed upon these verses:
In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.
2 Timothy 2:20-21
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Hebrews 13:20-21
God is constantly purposing to make us better! The past two years He has had me enrolled in a course called..."Learning to love unlovable people". The passing grade has not surfaced as of yet and the course load seems to be increasing...possibly to aide God in the process. What constantly comes out of the study sessions is self examination and the need to have something pruned out of my own life!
Hmm, think God knows what He is up too? Probably!
Here is an awesome verse we need to keep tucked away as a reminder to come alongside one another in this liking yourself life process.
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.
Hebrews 10:24
Oh, I do wish you were each here to share in a cup of hot chocolate over this snowy weekend!
