Resist
This happy child encountered an awful accident last week where he pulled a large
6 foot tall antique mirror upon himself and it broke. The glass cut a large gash into
his calf which the doctor was able to glue back together, but it could have been so much worse.
We are thankful.
Resist-withstand the action or effect of.
We were having a "round table" discussion with some grandsons after a fabulous day at Chick Fil A's Winshape camp. We were talking about how good kind words feel when washed over someone, but how the damage of unkind words is magnified and can linger forever.
We have a reward system in our home that when we receive an unsolicited compliment about one of our children from someone we give that child a dollar. One of our grandsons had racked up three compliments in one day by some of our friends who had encountered him, while he's here for the summer. The next day I overheard him speaking unkindly about a sibling, so a new rule has been invoked. It's a $2 fine when unkind words come out.
During the round table conversation, one of these little fellows started to tell us about another person in a negative fashion, but he resisted the temptation and said, "Whoops! That wouldn't be a good thing to say." It was such a "hooray!" moment and impacted all of us at the table.
God fill us up with Your Holy Spirit so that we may resist the devil today. In Jesus' Name Amen
"Surrender to God! Resist the devil, and he will run from you." James 4:7
"But you must resist the devil and stay strong in your faith. You know that all over the world the Lord's followers are suffering just as you are." 1 Peter 5:9
