The Goodness of God

Congratulations to our oldest grandson who experienced his first football championship with a victory!
Three generations of Andrews football players.

Battling the flu, I was unable to be in VA Beach for this game. While at home, I turned on the memorial service for the three UVA football players who were killed last week and it was a "to God be the glory" time of celebration for the lives of all three young men who love Jesus and are with him forever.  The university AD and Head Football Coach love Him too and didn't hesitate to share their faith.  Praise the Lord!

Coach Elliot quoted these resurrection verses.

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

1 Thessalonians 4:16

Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?  1 Corinthians 15:12

Cece Winans called the university and asked to be able to sing at the service. She belted out "The Goodness of God" a cappella!

The testimonies of over a dozen players, coaches, and school representatives pointed to the impact these young men had on the lives of others, but over and over again the name of Jesus was lifted up and individuals shared how they found comfort in knowing they would see these young men again!

Now that is powerful!   God knew when he placed these teammates in Charlottesville together that He would call them home together and the name of Jesus would be glorified in Charlottesville, VA and on national TV!

Yesterday, prompted by what a friend shared on Facebook, I found myself praying again for all these affected by this tragic event.

She wrote:
"Senseless tragedy at UVA last night. Our granddaughter, is a first year student there. She was working out in the gym when the incident occurred, and was on lockdown there until about 11:00 this morning.  She was first in a closet in the gym with about 30 others. In the middle of the night they moved them to a larger room.  They stayed there until the shooter was apprehended. She was cold, tired, hungry, but otherwise ok.  Thank you, God, for your grace; Sad that this has become far too common."

Reading my heart grew heavy, but the Lord impressed this upon me.  "Boo, I was at work in every space where people were sheltered.  Remember my remnant?  In times of fear and tragedy faith rises to the top and people call on the name of Jesus.  Those who know Him find the courage to tell of his goodness and how He is at work even in the worst of situations.  Pray now for the people in Charlottesville and elsewhere who have new found faith. For therein Devin, Lavel, and D'Sean's earthly passing has great value."

It's all about Jesus.
