The Morning Mist #1

Living on a mountain top lake it's not unusual to look out in the early morning and see mist on the water and in the trees.  In a 24 hour period the term mist was referenced in 3 different Bible studies or devotionals I was reading and God had my attention.  I think I will make this a 3 part series for all three verses hold different lessons.

Therefore they shall be like the morning mist or like the dew that goes early away, like the chaff that swirls from the threshing floor or like smoke from a window.

Hosea 13:3

The book of Hosea breaks my heart. Gomer is the girl who keeps on sinning and God makes Hosea take her back again and again, like He did with Israel and does with us.

In this verse the prophet Hosea is pointing out that just as the sun burns off the morning mist and the dew and the dry land remains, the same would be true for rebellious Israel.  Their riches and wealth would depart from them and they and their children would be taken captive by the Assyrians to a strange land.

When a mist or clouds cover land or water there is deception as to what is underneath.

Life without Jesus guiding us to moral goodness is deceptive as well.  When we are living outside the boundaries of God's purpose for our lives life is empty and worthless like the chaff on a threshing floor.

May we not be cover uppers!  May we turn to the Lord again and again treasuring His precepts and finding joy in obedience.
