Mind Your Marriage

This is a very intimate photo of my in laws when they were in their 90's and ended up in the ER at the same time.  At first they were in different sections and I would have to run between rooms to check on them. Then one of the nurses arranged for their beds to be rolled to the same area so they could hold onto one another. There's was a love and commitment that endured.

As we close out February for 2024 and this emphasis on marraige the phrase             "Mind your marriage" came to me.  We probably all had mothers who said to us, "Mind your manners," but equally important is that for those who are married we must be intention to keep a clear mind about our marriage and the reality that devil wants to destroy that union.

So let's close out the month, praying these scriptures not only for our individual marriages, but for the institution of marriage on a whole.

Lord may we be intentional to:

Above all else, guard our hearts, for everything we do flows from them. Proverbs 4:23

The devil knows what sets us off. He will try his best to make our hearts think the grass is greener somewhere else. Flee from temptation, call upon the Holy Spirit to guard our hearts and minds.  Don't give the enemy a foothold.

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

Romans 12:12

You know how I love to say, "Be joyful always." Thank the Lord for the gift of your spouse and when the trials come, as they will, ask the Holy Spirit for patience. He will provide, for he is the part of the Trinity inside of you and he wants your marriage to succeed. Remember another favorite phrase of mine, "Pray it, don't say it." God has a way out for every pit we fall into. Let Him lead!

Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 1 Corinthians 13:7

There is a preacher I listen to who misprounounces this word persevere. It says PRESSavere.  I'm certain he realizes to persevere you must press on with confidence in Christ. Look how Jesus loves.  Remember, God created your spouse, loves he/she deeply and desires for you both to cling not just to one another but Jesus, the greatest hope we have.  Ask the Lord to increase your love for your spouse daily!
