Approachable

December 9

I love our pastor. His messages pack a powerful punch and you always leave church filled up!
Stirred to pray for him recently, the word approachable came to mind while praying.  Looking that up in the dictionary was the definition: friendly and easy to talk to.   He certainly is that.

Opening a Christmas devotional, by Max Lucado, I read an excerpt from his book God Came Near and there was further description of our pastor in the description of Christ.

"It was about to begin-God's plan for humanity, crafted in the halls of heaven and carried out on the plains of earth.  Only holiness could have imagined it.  Only divinity could have enacted it. Only righteousness could have endured it...
So, people came to him...Because he refused to be a statue in a cathedral or a priest on an elevated pulpit.   He chose instead to be Jesus. There was not one hint of a person who was afraid to draw near to him.  There were those who mocked him, were envious of him, and misunderstood him. But none considered him too holy or too divine to touch.  There was not one person who was reluctant to approach him for fear of being rejected."

The Lord told Moses, "Come to me..."  Exodus 24:12
Jesus said, "Come to me...and I will give you rest."  Matthew 11:28
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me." Matthew 19:14
The Psalmists cry out, "Do not be far from me, my God; come quickly."  Psalm 71:12

Let's Pray:
God, you are Almighty. Greatly to be feared, surrounded by hallow ground. Yet, through Christ, we may approach Your throne!  You humbled yourself and came to earth in an approachable stance, which still exists today.  How blessed we are. Fill us up during this season of remembrance and find us faithful to tell the story of how precious our relationship with you is!  In Jesus' Name, Amen
