Day 3 Why Do We Worship?
Worship
"Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness." Psalm 96:9
Kneel
Oh give thanks to the LORD, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples. Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; Speak of all His wonders.” 1 Chronicles 16:8-9

Nibble
O LORD, You are my God; I will exalt You, I will give thanks to Your name; For You have worked wonders, Plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness.  Isaiah 25:1

"He is your praise and He is your God, who has done these great and awesome things for you which your eyes have seen.” Deuteronomy 10:21

Nourish
We worship because He’s our Lord.
Because He is your Lord, worship Him.”  Psalm 45:11
We worship out of obedience.
Honor the Lord for the glory of his name. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.” Psalm 29:2 NLT
We worship because God is worth it!
You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power.
For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.”  Revelation 4:11 NLT

Max Lucado recounts a phrase a friend shared, ”It’s not about me, and it’s not about now….It’s all about God and His Glory…God is higher than anything remotely associated with this life or us.  When we truly worship, we declare God’s glory, and it takes the attention off ourselves, centering it where it should be.”

“We worship God because he is God. Period. Our extravagant love and extreme submission to the Holy One flows out of the reality that God loved us first. It is highly appropriate to thank God for all the things he has done for us. However, true worship is shallow if it is solely an acknowledgement of God's wealth. We must focus our practice of worship on the worthiness of God and not his wealthiness.

Think about this: Would you continue to worship God if, from this day forward, God's miraculous signs and wonders were not so profoundly evident in your life? Would God still be worthy of your worship? Or is your worship completely dependent upon the abundance of God's blessings upon your life? Do you only worship God for what he can do for you?”  Kathleen Chapman

Does my love and adoration for God point others to a relationship with Him?
A.W. Tozer says, “With our loss of the sense of majesty has come the further loss of religious awe and consciousness of the divine Presence.  We have lost our spirit of worship and our ability to withdraw inwardly to meet God in adoring silence…The words, ‘Be still, and know that I am God,’ mean next to nothing to the self-confident, bustling worshiper.”

Tozer also tells us: “Man was made to worship God.  God gave to man a harp and said, ‘Here above all the creatures that I have made and created I have given you the largest harp. I put more strings on your instrument and I have given you a wider range than I have given to any other creature.  You can worship Me in a manner that no other creature can.’ And when he sinned, man took that instrument and threw it down in the mud and there is has lain for centuries, rusted, broken, unstrung; and man, instead of playing the harp like the angels and seeking to worship God in all of his activities, is ego-centered and turns in on himself and sulks and swears and laughs and sings, but it’s all without joy and without worship…”

Is God worth your time?

Knock
Father, You alone are worthy to receive glory, honor and power. Forgive me for when my mind wanders and life becomes all about me.  I come today worshipping You with awe because of your majesty, perfection and all knowing ways. You have been, You are and You always will be the Ruler of the Universe and Creator of all things.  I sing Hallelujah that I get to be a worshipping child of God.  In Jesus’ name. Amen
