Do You See it?

Spotting a blue heron is an enjoyable past time for our family on the lake.  Sometimes these big birds sit right on the lake edge of our property or even standing proudly on our dock.  My husband was the one to spot this one in an old dead tree.

We began saying to our granddaughter, "Do you see it? Do you see the big bird?"

It is incredible how God created animals to know where to go to camouflage themselves for protection.  (Remember the bird making its nest on the same color rocks a few days ago?) We have a few blue salamanders who sun on our front steps. As soon as I step out the door they turn gray and blend into the Trex stairs.

Here's my thought. Do we do the same thing?  In order to protect ourselves from societies lashes against Christians do we allow ourselves to blend in?  Are we silent not speaking up for Jesus and what He has done for us when maybe we are being called to share our hope?  Let's not forget our call to be set apart for God's purpose and not choose to safely blend in.

If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.  John 15:19

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2

The story of Peter denying Jesus three times is in all four gospels. Why did Peter deny Christ?  He was afraid. Do you see it? Fear is a powerful influencer of our behavior.  The Holy Spirit, Jesus in us, is a greater power.

Children, you belong to God, and you have defeated these enemies. God's Spirit[a] is in you and is more powerful than the one who is in the world. 1 John 4:4
