Friendship of God
Coordinating the process of decluttering, moving furniture, slapping on fresh paint, carpet installers coming and moving furniture back in will take about 10 days, so my husband continues his quiet time, seeking the Lord in a barren space.
The Bible Recap podcast has been in the book of Job. I know, oh the joy (jk-the lack of joy). In Job 29:1-5 (CEV) Job is longing for his past way of life and friendship with God to be restored.
Job said, I long for the past when God took care of me, and the light from his lamp showed me the way through the dark. I was in the prime of life, God All-Powerful was my closest friend and all of my children were nearby.
How do we achieve friendship with God? Just like with any other friendship, we hang out with Him. We seek to know details about Him in his Word and we listen for Him to speak to our hearts. Writing Boojoyful creates space for this to happen.
The clean out process mentioned above has been a tedious task. So far we have thrown out 18 garage bags containing old files, medical records I've saved for eight of us, years of Bible study books, prayer journals, personal journals, stacks of books to give away...all the things we know our children will send to the dump anyway when we are gone.
One of the toughest things to part with has been 1,ooo's of cards and notes of encouragement from friends. Thank you God for the gift of friendship. The past week, instead of watching TV, my husband and I have sat down with boxes of these treasures and read them to one another. They truly have been a soothing balm to our souls. Some are from people we do not even remember, others from people who have passed away and most from people we long to be with but recognize it probably won't be this side of heaven.
My husband said doing this was like getting to attend your own funeral. We chuckled and said, "We really ought to leave these for our children to go through and see how nice people thought we were."🤣 We saved one box incase we live to be 80 and want to be encouraged again.
