In a Rut

April 12
Usually, if you are in a rut it is not a good spot to be because you cannot get out, unless you like your rut! What you want to be is on track. We have several sliding screen doors at our home and when they get off track they get stuck in a rut and are difficult to open and close. When we remodeled our home we purchased two "Phantom Screens". These are amazing, there is no track. The screen wraps around a cylinder and pulls out from the side of the door closing on the other side with magnets.
The Holy Spirit is like that...invisible with a magnetic force which pulls us closer to the Father!
Feeling in a rut spiritually? A little off track and out of fellowship with the Lord? Ask the Spirit to get you back on track today!

There were a couple fun passages in The Message about ruts!

Psalm 119:97
Oh, how I love all you've revealed; I reverently ponder it all the day long. Your commands give me an edge on my enemies; they never become obsolete. I've even become smarter than my teachers since I've pondered and absorbed your counsel. I've become wiser than the wise old sages simply by doing what you tell me. I watch my step, avoiding the ditches and ruts of evil so I can spend all my time keeping your Word. I never make detours from the route you laid out; you gave me such good directions. Your words are so choice, so tasty; I prefer them to the best home cooking. With your instruction, I understand life; that's why I hate false propaganda.

2 Corinthians 5:1-7
For instance, we know that when these bodies of ours are taken down like tents and folded away, they will be replaced by resurrection bodies in heaven—God-made, not handmade—and we'll never have to relocate our "tents" again. Sometimes we can hardly wait to move—and so we cry out in frustration. Compared to what's coming, living conditions around here seem like a stopover in an unfurnished shack, and we're tired of it! We've been given a glimpse of the real thing, our true home, our resurrection bodies! The Spirit of God whets our appetite by giving us a taste of what's ahead. He puts a little of heaven in our hearts so that we'll never settle for less.
That's why we live with such good cheer. You won't see us drooping our heads or dragging our feet! Cramped conditions here don't get us down. They only remind us of the spacious living conditions ahead. It's what we trust in but don't yet see that keeps us going. Do you suppose a few ruts in the road or rocks in the path are going to stop us? When the time comes, we'll be plenty ready to exchange exile for homecoming.
