A Promise Fulfilled
When most people think of Christmas and Jesus they think of the miracle birth, the wonderful story of Mary and Jesus, the shepherds, the wisemen coming on camel back with their gifts, and maybe evil King Herod.
At this time of year probably very few allow their minds to drift to the sacrifice on the cross and there are others who don't even know what "The long awaited Messiah" means or that Jesus was a promised fulfilled.
Lifeway put out an Advent Study this year called "Joy to the World" in that this statement is found...
"Jesus was not God's back up plan. Instead, Jesus is the fulfillment of God's promise to redeem humanity from the brokenness of sin. (Genesis 3:15)
God is not only the Promise Maker, he is the Promise Keeper. I've mentioned before the ministry called 365 Promises. https://www.365promises.com A daily reminder in your inbox of the many promises of God has made and kept from the beginning of time.
Matthew 1:1 says...
Jesus Christ came from the family of King David and also from the family of Abraham.
God promised Abraham that through him and his descendants would come the family of God. Genesis 15:5 The Lord took him outside and said, “Look at the sky and try to count the stars; you will have as many descendants as that.”
God promised David a never-ending kingdom would come through him. Yup, it has.
As the Christmas songs play this season. think back beyond today. Think back to the wonder of it all. To the hope of Abraham, the heart of David and the Light of the world who came to fulfill a promise for all who believe.
