Accidental Purchase
Picking up my phone from a table in the dark the other night the double click for purchase sign showed up. As I fumbled with the phone I said to my husband, "I think I accidentally just purchased something." He calmly inquired, "What was it? Are we talking clothes, a car..." I sincerely had no idea, so we are watching the credit card closely.
Jesus knew exactly what he was purchasing when he paid the penalty for our sin on the cross. An angel made a proclamation to Joseph at the time of Mary's unexpected pregnancy that Jesus would be a Savior.
She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21
God requirea that his justice be satisfied. Our sins have to be paid in full by us or someone else. God knew we could never do that, so...
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
