Simple Truths

Don't you want to smack your forehead when a simple spiritual truth comes to mind and you respond "Duh, how do I not remember that daily?"

You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.  Deuteronomy 11:18

Today I read this quote-

We are fools if we don't recognize the truth in 1 Peter 5:8-11 MSG 

Keep a cool head. Stay alert.  The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping.  Keep your guard up.  You're not the only ones plunged into these hard times.  It's the same with Christians all over the world.  So keep a firm grip on faith.  The suffering won't last forever. It won't be long before this generous God who has great plans for us in Christ-eternal and glorious plans they are!-will have you put together and on your feet for good. He gets the last word; he does.

Googling scripture about the heart brought up 96 verses! Reading more of Eldredge's writing was another gold nugget.

"Of course your heart would be the object of a great and fierce battle.  It is your most precious possession.  Without your heart you cannot have God. Without your heart you cannot have love. Without your heart you cannot have faith. Without your heart you cannot find the work you were meant to do.  In other words, without your heart you cannot have life."

For where your treasure is there your heart will be also.  Matthew 6:21 

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

Toe Sucking

June 13 If I keep my eyes on God, I won't trip over my own feet. Psalm 25:12 …or allow them to be sucked off by carp!  For as long as I've been on this lake (49 years) we've gone to feed the carp at various marinas.   I have a bag of old bread waiting to be tossed to the carp tomorrow by our grandchildren!   There's a new adventure at a couple of the marinas.  Toe sucking!   For 25 cents you can buy a small scoop of peanut butter to go on your toes. Then the carp suck it off!   I just got a pedicure, so I have an excuse not to participate! What we do need to participate in is keeping our feet on the paths the Lord sets before us. Give careful though to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Proverbs 4:26

Commanded to Love

So long winter...maybe. It's very easy to love a little one needing snuggies,   as one granddaughter calls them. As we near the end of the "love" month I found myself pondering the command to love one another.  Jesus was able to love others, the way he commands us to love, by staying connected to his Father.  We have the ability to stay connected to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and be equipped to love in ways that sometimes feel impossible. Love your enemies.  Luke 6:27 You must love each other, just as I have loved you.  John 13:34 Love your neighbor as yourself.   Galatians 5:14 Whew! There are days I am very unlovable, yet Jesus does it.   Whether we like someone or not we are commanded to accept them and see value in them simply as God's creation.
