Higher Than I
When someone receives a medical diagnose that seems hopeless what is often heard? "We are going to find you the best doctor." The computers come out and the search begins.
When I listened to the song below and pulled up the lyrics:
"So much stronger, so much greater, so much wiser, so much higher" I thought, "Why are we ever slow to run to God for help and advice."
The opening lyrics say: "When my heart is overwhelmed, when I barely trust myself, lead me to the Rock Higher than I.
My mind flashes to people in the Bible who went to the Rock on behalf of others.
Mary and Martha when Lazarus was sick unto death. They knew who they needed. "Lord," Martha said to Jesus, "if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask." John 11:21-22
Moses crying out for his sister, Miriam, with leprosy. "Lord, Please, God, heal her!" Numbers 12:13
Jairus, the Roman soldier, came to Jesus on behalf of his dying daughter. "...when he saw Jesus, he went over to him. He knelt at Jesus' feet and started begging him for help. He said, 'My little daughter is about to die! Please come and touch her, so she will get well and live." Mark 5:22-23
The stories go on and on. People in the Old Testament cried out to their Creator and in the New Testament they went to Jesus. They went and still go only for physical healing, but to be set free from burdens and sin, because His sacrifice for our sins is what sets us free. This is only possible because He is higher than we are. He is our all knowing, all powerful God.
The disciples may not have known where Jesus was going, but Jesus knows where we are going each and every day and into forever.
Let these words sink into your ears: The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men. But they did not understand this saying, and it was concealed from them, so that they might not perceive it. And they were afraid to ask him about this saying. Luke 9:44-45
