The Name

Did you ever own a "names for your baby" books? Googles says: "Popular baby names in 2025 included Olivia, Amelia, and Emma for girls, and Noah, Liam and Oliver for boys."
Not realizing we would have six children to name and one to adopt whose name followed suit fitting in perfectly, we began with two family names in which both just happened to end in "on." The third child came along quickly and I made up the name, "Braydon," to flow nicely with my maiden name which begins with the letter B and ended in "on" keeping the tradition. We fudged a bit on the spelling of the sixth child to make it work.
Did you consider the meaning of the names you selected for your children? Searching names that have bad meanings, I wish I hadn't. I won't list those because chances are your's or the name of someone you love may be on that list. I found out the name of a beautiful little girl I adore means "Crooked nose," a relative's name means, "unlucky" and another friend's daughter's name means "wild boar clearing." Yikes. Hope I can get those images out of my mind.
Whew! What about in Ruth 1:20 where widowed and grief stricken over the deaths of her sons, Naomi declares "Don't call me Naomi. Instead call me Mara, for the Almighty has made life very bitter for me."
God was very intentional in selecting the second name of the Trinity. His earthly, fleshly name. The name that would be known above all other names.
The Hebrew name for Jesus is Yeshua and it is the shortened version of Yehoshua which means "the LORD saves." That is fitting!
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.
Philippians 2:9-10
Got Questions states: "The name Jesus was quite popular in first-century Judea. For this reason, our Lord was often called, 'Jesus of Nazareth," distinguishing Him by His childhood home, the town of Nazareth in Galilee. Despite its commonness, the name Jesus is remarkably significant. Jesus was sent by God for a particular purpose, and His personal name bears witness to that mission. Just as the Yeshua/Joshua in the Old Testament led his people to victory over the Canaanites, the Yeshua/Jesus in the New Testament led His people to victory over sing and their spiritual enemies."
How many times will you speak the name Jesus this month? All this hoopla is about Him, so let's tell His story.
