We Have Hidden Flaws
December is upon us. The lights and decorations abound. The radio, the nightly news casts (if you even listen to them) announce how many shopping days remain before the 25th. If you stopped random shoppers (who aren't simply shopping online) and asked, "What are you celebrating?" and they replied "Christmas," and you asked, "What is that about?" I think the responses would be very interesting.
The other day while in Target I issued two people this challenge..."If you can recite a scripture verse to me, besides John 3:16, I will give you $50." Neither could do it. To one I said, "You may want to go to the book section, maybe they have a Bible and you can select a verse to quickly memorize and come find me before I leave the store." It didn't happen.
Celebrating Christmas without knowing about the life of Jesus equals a great void.
Here is a verse that I want to be able to recite to fill the voids that come in life. I also want to apply it to my life as a prayer that causes me to be kinder to others.
Lord, forgive my hidden flaws whenever you find them.
Keep cleansing me from my secret, selfish sins; may they never rule over me!
For only then will I be free from fault and remain innocent of rebellion.
So may the words of my mouth, my meditation-thoughts, and every movement of my heart be always pure and pleasing, acceptable before your eyes, YAHWEH, my only Redeemer, my Protector. Psalm 19:12-15
My prayer:
Lord, You are the Keeper of my soul. (Psalm 121:5) What a job! Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and find me quick to forgive what I see as flaws in others and even quicker to recognize my own flaws and seek forgiveness. Give me eyes that look at others as Your valuable creations who you have uniquely designed. When I look at them may my first thought be "God loves them so, so, much."
Keep cleansing me Father, fill me up in a way that every movement of my heart, every thought I have, and every word I speak to others and about others, be pure, pleasing, and acceptable in Your eyes Father. I love You. In Jesus' name I pray.
We all have hidden flaws (like my knitting projects), but Jesus came to cover them all.
