Criticism
May 4
Criticize is a word with a negative connotation for it often carries a "put down" in its pocket. We would much rather be evaluated or critiqued than criticised.
Jesus underwent a boat load of criticism and much of that was from the religious leaders of his day. If he healed on the wrong day they blasted him. His dinner guests didn't always meet their standards and when He shared who he was they point blank called him a liar. So the next time we are getting hammered we can remember the company we keep.
Sometimes we are very critical of ourselves. There are enough others to beat us up in this world, so when the debilitating thoughts come let's listen to see if the accusations are out of love or resentment. One is from a loving Father; the other from the Father of lies!
My dear children, let's not just talk about love; let's practice real love. This is the only way we'll know we're living truly, living in God's reality. It's also the way to shut down debilitating self-criticism, even when there is something to it. For God is greater than our worried hearts and knows more about us than we do ourselves.
