Gardening Plan

May 13 & 14

Pruning our rose bushes the other day left me with thorn punctured hands and a pink petaled sidewalk. Moses (our bulldog) came barreling through the petals. It would have made an amazing video...the big burly guy with his jowls flapping and the pretty petite petals prancing around his paws.

Clipping away the dead blooms to make room for the new growth, while getting slightly wounded along the way, made me think about our faith walks. Sometimes God cuts one thing out of our life to make room for what He has next. Sacrifice of our time (like taking time to do the chores of gardening) and making Bible study a priority are necessary ingredients for our faith to fully bloom. God's pruning process can be painful and often involves not only clipping away the dead parts, but cleaning up some relationship messes along the way. The end result though is a faith which flourishes when we allow the Holy Spirit to do his job. God has had a good gardening plan from the beginning. He knows our lives will encounter storms, draughts and floods, but if we are planted in the fertile soil of Jesus Christ there will be times of abundant productivity and a hearty harvest that is worth it all.

Psalm 107:37
They sowed fields and planted vineyards that yielded a fruitful harvest.
