Do You Believe God is Real?

Someone is always watching. 
Our grandson had no idea while he was floating in his pool that a pair of eyes were upon him.

The "are you kidding me" look came at me from my pastor husband's eyes!  After God had just shown up for us in a big way I inquired, "Do you believe God is real!" He simply said, "I am assuming that is a rhetorical question." My statement should have been "No, one can tell me God is not real and aware of our every thought and every need."

After stressing over the best way to approach an issue that needed to be addressed he finally said, "Let's pray our prayers." (The ones from The Power of a Praying Husband/Wife by Stormie Omartian). Rather reluctantly, knowing how God gently disciplines, we grabbed our books.

He read first:

"Lord, I pray that you would bring Boo and me to a new place of unity with one another. Make us be of the same mind.  Show me what I need to do in order to make that come about.  Give me words that heal, not wound. Fill my heart with Your love so that what overflows through my speech will be words that build up, not tear down.  Convict my heart when I don't live Your way.  Help me to be the man, husband, and spiritual leader that You want me to be.  In Jesus' name I pray."

I yanked the book out of his hand saying, "You made that up."  Nope, every word was sent to us from God.

My turn:

"Lord, I lay all my expectations at Your cross. I release my husband from the burden of fulfilling me in areas where I should be looking to You.  Help me to accept him the way he is and not to try to change him.  I realize that in some ways he may never change, but at the same time, I release him to change in ways I never thought he could.

I leave any changing that needs to be done in Your hands, fully accepting that neither of us is perfect and never will be.  Only You, Lord, are perfect, and I look to You to perfect us.  May we be 'perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment' (1 Corinthians 1:10)  In Jesus' name I pray."

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Toe Sucking

June 13 If I keep my eyes on God, I won't trip over my own feet. Psalm 25:12 …or allow them to be sucked off by carp!  For as long as I've been on this lake (49 years) we've gone to feed the carp at various marinas.   I have a bag of old bread waiting to be tossed to the carp tomorrow by our grandchildren!   There's a new adventure at a couple of the marinas.  Toe sucking!   For 25 cents you can buy a small scoop of peanut butter to go on your toes. Then the carp suck it off!   I just got a pedicure, so I have an excuse not to participate! What we do need to participate in is keeping our feet on the paths the Lord sets before us. Give careful though to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Proverbs 4:26

Commanded to Love

So long winter...maybe. It's very easy to love a little one needing snuggies,   as one granddaughter calls them. As we near the end of the "love" month I found myself pondering the command to love one another.  Jesus was able to love others, the way he commands us to love, by staying connected to his Father.  We have the ability to stay connected to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and be equipped to love in ways that sometimes feel impossible. Love your enemies.  Luke 6:27 You must love each other, just as I have loved you.  John 13:34 Love your neighbor as yourself.   Galatians 5:14 Whew! There are days I am very unlovable, yet Jesus does it.   Whether we like someone or not we are commanded to accept them and see value in them simply as God's creation.
