Whatever is...

Took this moon photo from an airplane window and thought about God's majesty.

It was a sleepless night. Normally, on these nights instead of counting sheep, I pray through the family's needs and others who are heavy on my heart. Then, if still awake, I head on to ABC prayers.  This particular night I knew it was the enemy attacking my mind, so after praying to be able to take every thought captive to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5) my mind launched to Philippians 4:8 (ESV)

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever us lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things.

Then I checked it out in the CEV translation.  Finally, my friends, keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly and proper.  Don't ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise.

That was a mind boggler, because as I tried to come up with these things to dwell upon the reality was that only Jesus and God's Word met all the criterion...

What/Who is...

True-God's Word

Pure- the butter and olive oil in my kitchen say they are. LOL You may be thinking a new born baby. While an infant hasn't committed sin we are all born "in" sin, everyone born after Adam is born with a sin nature.

Right - Jesus always did what was right.

Holy - God

Friendly (in the CEV)- that one was easier.

Proper - certainly not me.

Somehow I feel asleep, but when I awakened I still had this verse on my heart and thought back to Paige Brown's quote related to most of our problems. "It's the heart stupid!"

If we are going to think on things which are innocent, virtuous, clean, not evil in anyway then we must survey what our eyes and ears are looking upon and listening to. We have to draw near to God and his Word by reading, memorizing and meditating on it day and night.

the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes... Psalm 19:8

Prayerfully, what we continually implant within us will make us quick to recognize what is harmful to us and we will want those things to repel away from our minds and not implant inside our hearts.
