Comfort

A fellow Girl Raised in the South, who is now with Jesus.

Here at Smith Mt Lake there is a group called the SML G.R.I.T.S. "Girls Raised in the South."  We gather once a month to celebrate our commonalities like enjoying front porch sitting, catching lighting bugs, sweet tea and pearls.  One of our members passed away this week and the group's president asked me to write a prayer that might bring us comfort.

Heavenly Father,

Your Word tells is to "rejoice always, pray without ceasing and in all things give thanks” (1 Thes. 5:16-18).  In our humanness we find that some days are harder than others to do that, for you created us with hearts that love and thus grieve in loss.

By faith, we rejoice because of Your love for us and the gift of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection power.  We also rejoice in the hope of heaven in Hebrews 13:14 which tells us that “This world is not our home; we are looking forward to our everlasting home in heaven.”  I bet our sister will be there waiting for us wearing a gorgeous scarf!

We will pray without ceasing for comfort and peace for all of our sister’s family and friends, including her G.R.I.T.S. sisters in the days, months, and years here on earth where we long to be with her and see that beautiful smiling face that always brightened up a room. She was truly a southern lady full of grace.

Father, we give thanks for how You have created each of us in our mother’s wombs with a plan and purpose for each day of our lives.  You know the day you bring a life into the world and the exact moment You will bring us home to You.  I pray that today we might each see a butterfly and give thanks for the beautiful things we experience here on earth.  May we remember that like the butterfly our lives are fleeting compared to eternity, so through the power of Your Holy Spirit, may we be found faithful to offer love, kindness and graciousness to others.

In John 14:1-3 Jesus said to his disciples.  "Don’t be worried!  Have faith in God and have faith in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s  house. I wouldn’t tell you this, unless it was true.  I am going there to prepare a place for each of you.  After I have done this, I will come back and take you with me. Then we will be together.

Lord, in the many rooms of God’s house, I my guess is we will find paintings in the vibrant colors of heaven that have been painted by our sister.  Thank You for her life.
In Jesus’ name. Amen
