Stirred into Action
On the one year anniversary of the loss of a friend's son to suicide, she shared a beautiful tribute on Facebook accompanied by a suggestion from her grief coach "to make space for joy" through an act of service. In her post she challenged readers to likewise "do a small act of kindness" in memory of their son.
“He has told you, O mortal, what is good, and what the Lord requires of you: only to do justice and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God.” —Micah 6:8
This young man had been an Eagle Scout and immediately my mind went to our grandson's scout troop. I texted our son and asked if there might be a scout in the troop with a financial need. Instantly, he shared that one of our son's favorite scout buddies was the child of Army parents who were divorced. Not only was there financial need, but this 13 year old scout had lost his best friend this year to suicide.
I began to weep at what God had woven together in moments. Calling my grieving friend, I told her the story and how I wanted her to think of the impact her post has had on so many!
Like the song lyrics in "Lemonade" ..."Life gave me some lemons, but my Jesus, he be makin lemonade." God is always up to good.
My friend sent me a photo of her son and his Eagle Scout project to share with this young man. I look forward to the day I can share an Eagle Scout ceremony photo of this young man with this grieving mother.
Flash back! These young scouts live in Minnesota. Twenty years ago, I was visiting our son who had moved to Minnesota and I was in an Apple store trying to get help. I overheard the conversation of a gentleman in his 80's and an Apple tech where he was trying to learn how to email. I walked over and suggested I sit there on my computer and send him emails and we could practice. Not only did we become email buddies, but this gentleman became a "Boojoyful" encourager. He faithfully sent me $25 a month to use in someway for the Lord! It was the sweetest relationship.
My prayer today is that in reading this God will stir you into an unexpected action that brings God glory.
