God Called Me Lazy Daisy
Up in the mountains on the Blue Ridge Parkway New Year's Eve
Obviously, I was lazy yesterday, no clue how I forgot to post this entry. I had written it the day before but then got side tracked yesterday. I guess it confirms how easy it is to become lazy.
Proverbs has quite a lot to say about laziness.
Laziness is self inflicted. It's a chosen unwillingness to work or exert energy.
"You lazy people can learn by watching an anthill." Proverbs 6:6
"Having a lazy person on the job is like a mouth full of vinegar or smoke in your eyes."
Proverbs 10:26
"Anyone too lazy to cook will starve, but a hard worker is a valuable treasure. Proverbs 12:27
"Being lazy is no different from being a troublemaker." Proverbs 18:9
"If you are too lazy to plow, don't expect a harvest." Proverbs 20:4
"If you are too lazy to plow, don't expect a harvest." Proverbs 20:4
When we are working for the Lord we will be strengthened and energized if we ask for that equipping.
"And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." Colossians 3:17
Weariness is quite different from laziness. It comes as a result of excessive exertion or lack of sleep.
God, in his creation plan, set us the example of a day of rest. He also created our bodies to need sleep and nourishment through meal time, so these verses in Proverbs are not calling us to exhaustion. Jesus accomplished much, but rested, prayed, and broke bread and ate fish around a fire!
"My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places."
Isaiah 32:18
Isaiah 40:28-31 paints a beautiful picture of doing life with the Lord.
"Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."
The obsessive part of me feels like I need to post a second entry today. Instead, I'm just going to say, "Sorry, Lord, Forgive me."
